According to the Rhode Island Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a Pawtucket man has been arrested and charged for severely injuring his dog. The animal abuse is identified as 26-year-old James Kelly.

Kelly is accused of causing a severe fracture to his two-year-old dog’s leg, and burning the dog with a hair drying. Kelly brought his dog to a veterinarian for treatment of the injuries and the vet determined that the wounds were not accidental.

Kelly turned himself in to the authorities on September 19. He is facing two counts of malicious injury or killing of an animal, which are felony charges. He could face up to five years in prison, and fines, if he is convicted.
