A chained dog, left to suffer in the brutal Texas heat, has died. The heartbreaking situation was brought to light by the Harris County Constable on Wednesday. The authorities explained what happened:
Our animal cruelty unit recently responded to a call which ended in the death of a dog which had been left outside for an extended period of time. The incident occurred in the 2800 block of Loganberry Park Lane in Houston on August 14, 2020.
A concerned person had submitted a video of the distressed and dying dog to the Houston SPCA. The authorities write:
You could see the dog gasping for breath in the video. It was attached to a metal chain which was weighted down. There appeared to be no shade, water or food available to the dog.
The dog’s internal temperature was nearly 107 degrees and 122 degrees externally. The excessive heat, coupled with the dog’s inability to escape to shade, resulted in death.
The Harris County Constable writes:
Once the investigation is complete the case will be turned over to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for potential prosecution.
