This week, someone left three boxes, sealed up with tape, full of cats and kittens outside of an animal shelter in Indiana. The Cass County Humane Society uploaded images of the felines to Facebook on May 28 and asked page followers to share the information:

So this just happened! First off, we are OPEN, we have had customers in and out all day, Brock has been mowing! Instead of coming in, these 3 boxes of cats were quickly dumped right outside of our door just out of our sight.

According to the animal welfare agency, the overheated cats were panting, distressed – and frightened.

The shelter wrote:

There are adult cats and kittens. All of them are Bobtails except for 2. If you have any information on who might have done this please let us know. Animal control has been notified!

It is a crime to abandon pets! If it becomes necessary to surrender a pet, take him or her inside of the shelter and leave them with a responsible staff member who can ensure that they will be safe.
