An Ohio woman, who pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the starvation death of her dogs, has been given a short jail sentence. As reported by WFMJ News, 24-year-old Tabitha Ballew, of Warren, will spend just six months behind bars for the starvation death of two of her dogs.
Ballew pleaded guilty to three counts of animal cruelty on Wednesday before being sentenced to jail. The woman was charged back in March after two dead dogs were found inside of a cage in Ballew’s apartment – a third dog, severely malnourished, was also inside of the cage feeding on the dogs who had already died.
Officers who responded to Ballew’s residence describe the conditions as “deplorable.”
It was a neighbor who made the initial discovery – as reported by TribToday, Carla Hunt had a key to Ballew’s apartment and she entered the residence, while Ballew was out of town, after realizing that she hadn’t heard the dogs barking in some time. She found the residence strewn with clothes, urine and feces and reached out to the authorities after finding the dead dogs in the cage.
