A Pennsylvania man is accused of choking his own dog to death in order to avoid paying a veterinarian to provide the dog with care. As reported by the Citizen’s Voice, 27-year-old Dennis Blanchette admitted to the police that he had “choked the dog out.”
Blanchette’s dog, a three-year-old husky mix, was sick. The dog had lost its appetite and was experiencing diarrhea and vomiting. Blanchette took the dog to the local SPCA, where the dog vomited in the lobby. He was advised by shelter staff to get the dog to a veterinarian for an exam and treatment.
Blanchette claims that he did not have the funds for veterinary care, so he decided to kill his dog via strangulation, and then buried the dog’s body in the backyard of a Wilkes-Barre home.
A necropsy on the dog’s body confirmed bruising consistent with strangulation.
Blanchette’s actions have resulted in multiple charges, including: a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals and misdemeanor counts of cruelty to and neglect of animals.
