A few days ago, a geriatric dog was found grievously injured, with a gunshot to her head, in Cooke County, Tennessee. The dog was so seriously injured that she had to be humanely euthanized at a veterinary hospital.
On February 27, the Cedarwood Veterinary Hospital utilized social media to raise awareness about animal cruelty and the need to “always be kind, especially to animals.”
The Facebook post describes the dog’s grave condition at the time that she was found:
A geriatric female canine was allegedly found tied/chained to a tree this morning in Cocke County. She was brought to my hospital, Cedarwood Veterinary Hospital by a good Samaritan. The dog was in shock and severely depressed, with her right eye bulbous and protruding. She was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to the head. I humanely euthanized this dog.
And speculation about what could have happened:
I can only speculate how this dog ended up in this situation. Did someone tie her to the tree hoping someone would come by and claim her? Did someone else come by and shoot her, just to target practice? Or, did the reverse occur?
And finally, a request for everyone to reflect on what needs to change:
I want to bring this incidence to social media, not to incite a riot, nor to cause comments of outrage about the state of our community. Instead, I would like for everyone to think about what needs to change in our community. Think seriously about what has lead to the situations our animals and yes, humans, as well, are faced with.
I hope to one day see this community make educated decisions which are not based on attention seeking behaviors, politics and greed.
As always, be kind to each other but especially be kind to the animals.
