An Oklahoma family is stunned following the death of one of their pregnant cows. As reported by News On 6, an Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed the cow, who had wandered away from the Withrow family’s pasture.
While responding to a 911 call last Wednesday, two deputies nearly hit the cow, who was on Cherry Road in Wilson. When the deputies went to another call, the cow was still on the roadway, so she was shot and killed. The cow’s owner wishes that someone would have contacted their family to retrieve the wayward cow. Josh Withrow told the news agency, “It was unnecessary, I was already less than five minutes away, and that’s all it would have took.”
The cow was “feet away” from her pasture when the deputy shot and killed her, citing public safety as the reason for the shooting. The sheriff stated that the cow was “jumping around aggressively” before she was shot.
Withrow has noted that the dirt road she was on is “in the middle of nowhere,” and wonders how much of a threat she actually was. The incident is being investigated by the State Department of Agriculture.
