After more than a year, shelter dog finally is chosen by adoptive family

After more than a year of calling a Florida animal shelter “home,” a dog has finally been chosen by an adoptive family. The eight-year-old pit bull, Herbert, was passed over time and again at the Broward County Animal Care and Adoption facility, but that all changed during the recent Clear The Shelters event.

Two days ago, the animal shelter shared the good news about Herbert’s adoption with followers of the shelter Facebook page:

After a WHOLE YEAR of waiting, Herbert finally got a home! Our team was wishing and hoping all day that Herbert would get his forever home, and all of our wishes came true this afternoon! The Mesamy family have a great home with plenty of land for Herbert to enjoy! Way to go!

Shelter staff and volunteers shed tears of happiness when Herbert was handed over to his new family, reports NBC Miami. Lisa Alonso, with the shelter, told the news agency, “Herbert’s a great dog, all the volunteers love him.”
