Recently, a beautiful German shepherd named Max was given up by his family…his people cited “allergies” as the reason that they could no longer care for their companion. Tragically, more was behind the surrender.
Max was quiet and depressed when he first joined the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County – initially, rescuers believed that it was sadness which was impacting the dog who no longer had his family. But after three days of despondent behavior and no eating, Max was taken to a veterinarian.
An exam revealed that Max had a bowel obstruction…in addition to double ear infections. Suffice to say, Max was miserable. Max was scheduled for emergency surgery and during the procedure, a completely intact Beanie Baby was discovered.
Sadly, there would be no happily-ever-after for Max…after initially showing improvement, Max died. Maria Dales, Director of the rescue agency, shared the devastating news on Friday morning:
Max did not make it. He was improving, but this morning he expired at the vet despite our heroic efforts. This dog lost his life due to his owner’s severe neglect. We are all devastated. The vet suspects that the pancreas just failed completely. The intestines were so damaged from the blockage that he couldn’t pull through.
Rest in peace Max.

OMG! So heartbreaking! Society is over run with nasty,POS humans! Poor, poor dog, dead tbecause of a POS human! RIP MAX
They should publish the names of Max’s owners and make it so they can never ever have any contact with animals for the rest of their lives!
I don’t know how you can just surrender your baby. Karma is a bitch, you know. And for this person to just give up, you should not even bother having a pet to begin with if your intention isn’t for better or for worst.
The owners should be arrested for killing that poor fur baby
OMG! Max, I am so sorry that we humans failed you after you trusted us so much. Your guardians should be brought up on charges. RIP Max.
I am so very sorry Max. May God hold you in his arms.
Ignorant fucking misfit owners. Why do people have pets if they don’t treat them with the utmost respect and care. Just as if your kid was not feeling well you would hopefully take them to the Dr. Pets can’t tell you whats wrong, you have to just look after them. Makes me so angry ????????????????????. I hope that family Has a tragedy .
I hope the Owners get charged with this abuse and that is what it is ABUSE!!!! RIP poor MAX!!!
Rest in peace Max, thank you German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County for doing all you could for this precious soul.
Are the owners not being charged???????????????
Rest in Peace Max. Sorry excuse for owners who couldn’t even prevent something like this from happening to Max. At least they could have mentioned how lethargic he was.
It’s a shame people discard their animals this way. That had to realize he needed medical attention. Sorry Max that people failed you.
That poor dog suffered terribly! That family knew he was sick and did nothing for him! Meanwhile he probably had an infection and dying guts ! They should be charged with negligence!!
So very very sorry! !! RIP Max ???????????? why his owner dont take care of him? ?? Shame on you !!!
The heartless, lying owners should be charged over this serious case of abuse. Max deserved much better from the useless pieces of trash that he gave his love to. They failed him, end of story.
RIP MAX
RIP Max ……. glad you knew unconditional love before you died……. so sorry your “original” humans failed you (they are going to burn in Hell forever for their cruelty to you)……..
RIP MAX. Sorry your Humans Failed you.
RIP Max.
I am not placing blame – other than to the owners – but don’t rescues automatically have a dog examined? There might have been a chance an obstruction was felt?
Poor Max. I hope that he is at peace and he is no longer in pain. Such a sad moment.
