According to Monday’s WKBN News, an Ohio woman, who moved away, leaving a dog chained to a dog house, will not go to jail. Though 25-year-old Tameka Smith moved out of her Campbell home and abandoned the dog on a chain, with no access to food or water, she only faced a misdemeanor charge of dog confinement for the cruel act.
The abandoned dog did not survive life alone on a chain…the dog, dubbed “Charlie,” was discovered frozen to death outside of the vacant home; Smith was charged in January 2015.
Animal rights activists had rallied on behalf of the deceased dog – hoping that the woman who walked away and left him to die an agonizing death would be appropriately punished. Despite the support for a strong sentence, Smith will not spend time in jail, but she will be required to complete 250 hours of community service.
