Sickly, senior shepherd forgotten and in need

A ten-year-old German shepherd mix, dubbed “Rita” by shelter staff, has been seemingly forgotten by social media networkers. The senior dog is in the care of the Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation in California. Rita’s pitiful physical condition is easy to spot – her hair is thin, her skin is thick and she appears to overall be in poor health.

On July 30, a Facebook networker wrote, “Severe skin disease, demodex, bronchitis, very bad joint disease, possibly has metabolic disease.” After initial comments and sharing, efforts seem to have waned on Rita’s behalf – this week, someone wrote “dead thread.”

Though Rita is listed as a 10-year-old senior dog, there is speculation that her current state of health is making her seem much older than her actual age – until she is rescued, and taken to a veterinarian for a thorough exam, her true age will not be known.

Please help Rita find her way to a safe, reputable rescue by taking a moment to share her information.

  1. Please read the article below about this sweet GSD mix that desperately needs our help. She needs to get out of this Sacramento, CA shelter ASAP to get the medical treatment she needs. The shelter estimates her to be about 10 yr old but she maybe younger. Either way she needs a foster home, pledges and a rescue group to oversee her care until she finds her furever. Please share to help her get the chance at a new life.
