A horrific case of animal cruelty is under investigation in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, following the discovery of a dead dog in a creek. On March 6, the Danville Area Humane Society announced the offering of a reward for information in the case, and recounted the disturbing details, writing:
We are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of a dog and cat on West Sunrise Drive in Pittsylvania County. The dog is dark-colored and was found in a creek with a zip-tie around his muzzle and a block of wood in his mouth. His body was recovered yesterday by Pittsylvania County animal control officers.
It was reported that a cat was also in the creek, but the cat’s body was not found.

The reward comes from the Earl Merricks Stop the Cruelty Fund. All rewards come from private donations and must be used for the purposes of offering rewards. No taxpayer money is involved.
