Ireland had quite the mystery “lion” going viral this past week. A video that had been captured by a truck driver actually mistook a Newfoundland pooch named Mouse with a hairdo resembling that of a lion’s coat.
Officials were initially baffled, wondering if someone’s pet lion had escaped. There had been no reports of any lions escaping from any zoos.

According to the Facebook page for the Irish police, on November 4, the mystery was solved.
That “lion” spotted roaming Clare? Turns out it was just a very committed Newfoundland dog with a fresh haircut.
Gardaí from Killaloe have concluded that the recent video of a “lion like” animal roaming around the woods in East Clare is in fact the very friendly ‘Mouse’, a Newfoundland dog who is delighted with his recent viral video clip.
Photos posted on social media showed the friendly dog named Mouse and his fancy “do.” His body coat had been shaved down, but he still had a bushy tail and a mane resembling that of a lion.

Newfoundland dog owners have been sharing their feelings about Mouse’s haircut, stating haircuts that drastic for the breed can be harmful. Their coats help to regulate their body temperatures.

Thankfully Mouse was safe.
