A cranky moose attacked a dog walker recently on an Alaska trail, but as luck and loyalty may have it, the dog stepped in to save the man.

According to the Alaska Department of Public Safety, the dog walker had just emerged from an intersection on the Tsalteshi Trails on December 18, when the grumpy moose knocked the man to the ground “without notice.”

The moose then kicked the man several times, but the dog intervened and was able to scare the moose away. The man and the dog were able to run away and headed back to the beginning of the trail where the man was rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, the man’s bruises were not serious. The dog was not injured.

There have been more reports of more moose in the general area and troopers have warned the public to stay clear of the area.

Moose are known to become more aggressive in the winter when they have to scavenge for food or have been harassed by people and dogs. Readers commenting on the incident stated the man walking the dog should not have been in that particular section of the trail.
