In New Haven, Connecticut, a woman in hospice care was granted a final wish, which was to visit her horse to say goodbye. This past weekend, Karina Courtmanche, 79, was taken to see her horse Bella, 30; the two had been together for 28 years.

According to WtnhNews, the dying woman had been talking about Bella, and then asked her case manager at CT Hospice if she could see her horse just one more time. And on Sunday, the officials with Mary Wade and American Medical Response, coordinated the last reunion the two special friends would ever have.

Arrangements were made, and even though Karina’s condition was failing, the dying woman was taken to Bittersweet Farm to see Bella.

Our medical team, our emts went to mary wade this morning to help transition her from the bed to the stretcher and she’ll be coming in ambulance.

American Medical Response

Karina has been a patient at Mary Wade Home for more than a year and is very sweet and well liked by the staff. When she was young, she loved to get dressed up and wear fancy jewelry. To get Karina ready for her reunion with Bella, her nurses saw to it that their patient wore something lovely and had the best time.

After Karina passes, Bella will continue to live her life at Bittersweet Farm.
