Five coyotes, including one coyote pup with a broken leg, who were under the care of the San Diego Humane Society’s Ramona Wildlife Center, were released back into the wild near Palomar Mountain on Monday.

According to the organization’s wildlife program, one of the coyotes entering the center on May 15, suffered from a broken tibia.

For any hope that this little guy would ever return to the wild, we had to get creative. Our veterinary team placed a lateral splint and conducted daily visual rechecks so the coyote’s bone could heal.

Once the little guy was stable enough, he was moved to an outdoor enclosure with other similarly aged coyote puppies. Cameras were used to follow their activities and to make sure the little guy with the broken leg, was adapting to his new friends.

About a month later, the pup was doing fine even though he still had a slight limp, however he has since improved and jumps around and behaves as if he will do fine back in the wilds.

Good luck little guy! Happy travels.
