Over the weekend, nearly two dozen French bulldogs were rescued from pitiful conditions at a Midwest breeder’s property. Compassion for Canines alerted Facebook followers about the intake of 21 dogs. On Sunday, the rescue agency recounted what had transpired:

These guys belonged to a breeder in the Midwest who became ill and could no longer care for her animals and needed to down size. We happen to have a Frenchie-Loving-Friend who agreed to drive across the country to assess what was there, and see how we could help.

The person who showed up at the property to get the dogs was shocked to see a sign on the door that said: “take them all.” Nobody was even there to do a proper transfer. The group explained what happened next, writing:

When she entered the kennel, she was mortified – there sat 21 frenchies, mostly hairless, in concrete runs begging for help. Like any sane dog lover would do, she went to the closest car lot and purchased a $40,000 Sprinter van. She then raided every Walmart, Tractor Supply, and Petstore in her area for crates of ANY size. She returned to the facility (still with no owner present) and loaded all 21 dogs up in her new van with new crates.

The dogs are safe, but will require a great deal of veterinary care:

When we arrived at her property today, we were astounded at the conditions of the dogs, even though they had received more care in the last week than they have in months. Nothing could’ve prepared us for such a large group of dogs in such bad shape.
In the coming weeks we will have them all seen by a vet. Over 100 vaccines, heartworm tests, microchips, dewormer, flea/tick prevention, medicated shampoo, and countless antibiotics for their skin infections, and spay/neuter surgeries are in our future.
