A dog who has spent more than 20 months at a shelter in California has been given 72-hours to be rescued, or he will be put down. Heartbroken shelter volunteers who have fallen in love with the dog are pleading for help on social media.

DUDE IS RESCUE ONLY – MUST EXIT SHELTER IN 72 HOURS‼️
The shelter has sent out numerous alerts to New Hope partners over the last few months, but sadly there’s been no response. As a result, the shelter has given him a final 72 hours to be rescued or he’ll be euthanized. 😭💔
We volunteers are heartbroken at the thought Dude may have spent 20+ months living in this stressful, lonely environment in vain. 😢

Dude has been adopted, and returned three times – shelter volunteer explain:

Unfortunately, this high-energy boy has been adopted three times and returned quickly: twice for bite incidents (including a child) and once for being aggressive towards another dog.
Because he’s so truly delightful with us, we’re confused and surprised by his behavior issues. However, it’s clear our little man needs to go to a trainer for a proper assessment, training, and decompression time.

Outlining the positives as well:

Since entering the shelter system in June 2020, this petite pittie mix has always been incredibly affectionate, playful, and engaged with everyone at the shelter throughout his long stay.
He appears to be very housebroken, is adorable when he does his zoomies and throws his toys in the air, and has been non-reactive to other dogs, joggers and bikes while on leash. He also LOVES being around people, leans in for pets and cuddles, and rolls over for a belly rub every chance he gets. He literally has pages of positive behavior notes from the various volunteers who’ve regularly handled him throughout including he’s done well with some dogs!

Time is not on Dude’s side, but while there IS time, there is hope. Please share Dude’s information with the hope that it will find its way to a rescue group that can help.
