Baltimore, MD – A plea for help has been issued on behalf of an emaciated dog who was found collapsed in a field this week. The dog, a skeletal senior dubbed Marie Curie, was clinging to life when an animal control officer was notified of her presence.

On Thursday afternoon, the shelter said:

Thankfully when officers arrived, Marie Curie was still alive, although very weak and in desperate need of attention. She was then immediately brought to our shelter for care.

Adding notes about the results of her exam:

Upon examination, our vets noted that Marie Curie had a body condition score of only 1/9. She was dehydrated, had severe loss of muscle mass, conjunctivitis, otitis, and fly strike on her ears. Bloodwork showed anemia and we also sent her out to a partnering hospital for an abdominal ultrasound just to be safe, which revealed mildly enlarged lymph nodes, although overall, findings were unremarkable.

The BARCS Rescue team is hopeful that a rescue agency will be able to take her in, writing:

Marie Curie is available immediately for rescue pick-up, and due to her condition and overall nervousness in shelter, we’d love to find placement for her ASAP. Please let us know if your organization can help!
