Thirteen animals who lived on property in Gaines Township, Michigan, starved to death after their owner died. As reported by Fox 19 News, nobody was aware that 64-year-old Gilda Mizell had died inside of the vehicle that was parked in the driveway at her residence, and before she was discovered, 12 of her ponies, and one dog, starved to death inside of a barn and her house.

Sherry Lange, who lives in the area, expressed dismay that nobody knew Mizell had died, telling the news agency:

“Why did it get to this point that nobody reached out to anybody and nothing was done about it? I was just absolutely astounded that something like this took place in our community and nobody had been aware of it.”

When troopers were finally made aware of the situation, just two dogs and one horse remained alive; they have all found new owners.

It is believed that Mizell died of natural causes and that nobody else was in charge of her animals, which means that there is nobody to be held accountable for the animals who starved.

  1. This is beyond tragic. Those poor precious treasures……..

What is really scary is that there was no one to check on the animals’ owner or the animals…….

It’s absolutely heartbreaking that there was no one who cared about their lives and welfare…….
