Man accused of punching puppy and breaking its neck for pooping in crate

A man in Missoula, Montana, is accused of a brutal attack on a puppy who pooped in a crate. As reported by the Missoulian, the five-month-old Labrador retriever mix puppy was killed by 29-year-old Nicholas Allen Beres on Sunday after Beres discovered that the pup had an accident in a crate.

Beres’ estranged wife told the authorities that she got the pup to help her through the separation from her husband; she was at the home when the violent and deadly attack took place. She told the police that she heard her husband yelling and several “loud thumps.”

Police who responded to the home found the accused man on the home’s porch “near a large pool of blood.” The man admitted to striking the puppy with a closed fist. Beres was booking into the Missoula County jail on a charge of misdemeanor animal cruelty; he has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
