Days ago, animal control officers in Baltimore, Maryland, were alerted to a concerning situation in a vacant yard. According to BARCS, an injured dog was observed hiding beneath concrete stairs, amidst trash.

The animal welfare agency recounted the troubling scene:

When officers arrived, they found Snoopy (as we named him) laying under stone stairs. Upon closer observation, the officers saw that Snoopy was suffering greatly from several large wounds, including an infected hole in his chest.

As it turns out, Snoopy was gravely injured. BARCS describes the extent of damage the abandoned dog suffered, writing:

Upon examination, his wounds appeared to be consistent with those of stab wounds or another form of impalement. He was transferred to a partnering hospital, which confirmed that poor Snoopy’s injuries were inflicted with something very long and sharp in a random pattern. While the wounds missed all his major blood vessels, one tore his pectoral muscle and nearly detached his leg from his body.

Snoopy had to undergo surgery for his injuries and he is now on strict crate rest as he recuperates. The shelter expressed gratitude to the person who let them know about Snoopy’s sad situation:

We may never know what happened to Snoopy and why he was hiding out in that backyard, but we are so thankful that a good citizen spotted him and took action. We’ve taken the first actions to save Snoopy’s life
