An elderly man, and five of his pets, died when from a horrific explosion at a home in Duplin County, North Carolina. As reported by WITN News, 79-year-old Lon Record died after a gas explosion destroyed his home on Jackson Store Road last week.
Record was said to have upwards of 30 animals at his home. Five of his pets perished in the explosion and rescuers were able to find 17 more. Many of the cats and dogs were critically injured in the blast, and they are receiving care at the Wilmington Emergency Animal Clinic.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help provide veterinary care for the animals who were critically injured in the blast. You can find the GoFundMe at this link.
An update on the fundraiser provides insight to the care of the animals before the devastating explosion:
All animals were well taken care of. No animals were found deceased at the scene. We have 14 of these animals in our care and 3 are in the process of being captured.
We have an unfortunate update. Our most critical girl succumbed to her injuries. However, she will be layed to rest with her beloved Daddy.
In memory of their owner, we are calling this group of animals “Mr Lonnie’s Angels”.
