A abandoned puppy in St. Louis, Missouri, was found chained to a fire hydrant which was connected to a clip that was pierced through the skin of her neck.

Stray Rescue of St. Louis posted images of the pup on Thursday and recounted the sad situation:

Another first for us. Sadly, we see embedded collars all the time. And although it’s absolutely awful, we are used to seeing it. This dog was chained to a fire hydrant – and she’s not wearing a collar. This large clip is actually pierced through her neck! It has been like this awhile because the tissue has grown around it. We’re going to have to surgically remove it.

The puppy, dubbed Willa, was quickly prepped for surgery to remove the clip from her body.

It is hard to imagine how some people can be so horribly cruel to animals. Fortunately this pup is getting veterinary care and she should be able to recover from the cruelty she was forced to endure. Find Stray Rescue of St. Louis on Facebook at this link.
