A Detroit, Michigan, man has been sentenced to prison time in a dog fighting cruelty case involving 30 dogs. As reported by Fox Detroit, 30-year-old Julian Akyan was sentenced on Friday after accepting a plea deal for the March 2019 case.

As reported by Fox, Akyan was sentenced to “one to four years for cruelty to 10 or more animals and one to five years for possessing a firearm as a felon.” Before accepting the plea deal, he was facing “11 felony charges including animal fighting, cruelty to animals and gun possession.”

The cruelty case

Akyan was arrested after the Detroit Police Department and the Michigan Humane Society launched an investigation involving multiple locations in the Detroit area. A total of 30 dogs were found – the dogs had scars and injuries consistent with dog fighting activities.
