A grim discovery was made inside of a hot car which was parked in the Guyandotte area of Huntington, West Virginia, on Tuesday afternoon. As reported by WSAZ News, over a dozen cats and kittens were suffering inside of the virtual oven on wheels; some of the cats had already perished in the heat and others were dying from heat stroke by the time that they were discovered.
Good Samaritans alerted the authorities to the dire situation – when animal control officers arrived to save the cats, the interior car temperature registered over 100 degrees. The car’s interior was littered with urine, feces, scattered cat food and garbage.
The excessive heat had already claimed the lives of a kitten and a cat – another five felines perished after being taken to an area shelter. Authorities have issued a warrant for the car’s owner, who may face felony animal cruelty charges for the deadly situation.
Never leave pets unattended in parked cars – even if it is only moderately warm outside. The interior temperature of a parked vehicle can climb to a deadly level in a short period of time.
