A man in Phoenix, Arizona, has been arrested after a dog was found strangled to death in his front yard. As reported by multiple sources, 38-year-old Ruben Ezekiel Garcia, Sr. is facing a felony animal cruelty charge for the death of his one-year-old German shepherd, who died after being strangled by his own collar.

Details about the dog’s death have been outlined in the police report about the incident:

(the collar was caught) between two slats at a height which the canine was unable to stand, causing the canine to struggle for an unknown period of time before expiring due to strangulation from his collar.”

According to the authorities, the dog was left unattended for seven hours – there was no sign of food, water or shelter.

Garcia is also facing a drug charge after a meth pipe was discovered in his clothes. He is due in court later this month.
