A Vancouver Island man who beat his puppy, Dux, to death has been sentenced to jail time and banned from owning an animal for the next 10 years. According to the BC SPCA, Robert Carolan of Duncan will spend four months behind bars for killing the 16-week-old puppy.
According to Marcie Moriarty, the chief prevention and enforcement officer for the BC SPCA, a necropsy revealed that Dux suffered blunt force trauma injuries to his head and rib. Carolan had tried to claim that the puppy drowned in a tub while he was outside smoking, but he had no explanation for the puppy’s bleeding.
“I think jail time is absolutely warranted in a case this heinous. It is heart-breaking to think of how much this poor puppy suffered and the terror he would have experienced before succumbing to his injuries.”
Carolan also received a victim surcharge fine of $100 and a three-year period of probation.
