A Vancouver Island man who beat his puppy, Dux, to death has been sentenced to jail time and banned from owning an animal for the next 10 years. According to the BC SPCA, Robert Carolan of Duncan will spend four months behind bars for killing the 16-week-old puppy.

According to Marcie Moriarty, the chief prevention and enforcement officer for the BC SPCA, a necropsy revealed that Dux suffered blunt force trauma injuries to his head and rib. Carolan had tried to claim that the puppy drowned in a tub while he was outside smoking, but he had no explanation for the puppy’s bleeding.

Moriarty stated:

“I think jail time is absolutely warranted in a case this heinous. It is heart-breaking to think of how much this poor puppy suffered and the terror he would have experienced before succumbing to his injuries.”

Carolan also received a victim surcharge fine of $100 and a three-year period of probation.

I guess his punishment is better than nothing. But when they KILL an animal, they should serve MINIMUM of a year in jail. MINIMUM of $10,000 fine and a 10 year probation once out. LIFETIME ban on ever owning another pet.
People who can do this to a PUPPY…. or any animal are sick, worthless monsters!

FOUR MONTHS? A $100 FINE? Are you kidding?

That’s nothing but a slap on the wrist! It’s sickening how lightly scum like this gets off. The Parkland killer began with killing animals. There is a PROVEN correlation between killing animals and killing and abusing people.

Yet these lenient sentences keep on being given to murderous filth like this.

When are judges and prosecutors going to learn?

He should be in prison for life and NEVER allowed near any animal or child for life! I am so sorry Dux! Your life was taken because humans are the real monsters on this planet! I hope you haunt this man forever!

4 months is not enough for such a heinous crime. These kinds of people remind of big immature children who have a temper tantrum and take it out on an innocent little thing that can’t fight back. Robert you are a coward!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is so good enough it should been a lot longer inside prison, the fine should had been a lot higher and the ban should be for life and not 10 years. All animal abusers should get the same. What is wrong with the justice system they are getting to soft with these abusers

I agree with many that he should have had more jail time and money paid out. What he did to that poor puppy should be done to him by the inmates and the guards should turn their backs when he gets his real punishment. Future killer of humans. Do away with him now.

Sounds like he was punished to 1 month per 1 month of that poor puppy’s short life. Where do these idiot judges get their education? I hope Karma pays him a visit in prison and he’s subjected to cruelty equal to or worse than what this poor little pup experienced. No mercy.
RIP sweet baby. You didn’t deserve that piece of shit. Not all humans are that evil. Some truly love and value their pets.

Th is is a joke someone has to start taking care of the real garbage in the streets. Marijuana convictions get higher sentences in some states!

Four months in jail and a lousy $100.00 fine is not even a slap on the wrist – it is an OK that you murdered a little puppy and we don’t mind that you are a hunk of sewer slime – BC now shows it considers animal abuse OK and that animals are no more than disposable objects for maggots like Robert Carolan to abuse and kill. I truly hope that his pitiful sentence of 4 months is one of misery and that predatory inmates use, abuse and victimize him in every way possible. And when released – he gets no farther than one block and massive street justice finds him.

I am completely blown away by the ultra light sentence handed down by this Canadian judge karma will catch up to this bully and then justice will be served. R.I.P. little pup.

HOPE THE BASTARD IS FOUND BY ANIMAL LOVERS AND GETS TORTURED. NOTHING SURPRISES ME WITH THE LITTLE BULLSHIT THIS BASTARD GOT. AGAIN, IF THIS WERE A HUMAN THIS WOULD BE CONSIDERED MURDER AND PRISON BUT FOR AN ANIMAL IT ISN’T A DAMN THING. ACTUALLY PUNISHMENT SHOULD BE MORE HARSH WHEN IT COMES TO AN ANIMAL SINCE THEY CAN’T DEFEND THEMSELVES. HOPE THIS FUCKED UP POS HAS A MISERABLE AND PAINFUL SHORT LIFE.
