A 33-year-old man in the Bronx is facing a charge of felony animal cruelty for allegedly stabbing his friend’s young dog 55 times. According to the New York Times, the accused man, identified as Stephen Richardson, repeatedly stabbed his friend’s 18-month-old pit bull, Onyx, until she died.
The accused dog killer allegedly attacked Onyx after the dog bit him while they were playing at a park in late December. Richardson admitted to hitting the dog while they were at the park and then later, “took him out of his misery” with a knife in the bathtub of his residence. The dog suffered multiple stab wounds on his face and neck. Onyx’s owner found her bloodied and mangled dog in Richardson’s bathtub later the same day.
The authorities arrested Richardson on December 29 – the day of the deadly incident. If convicted of the felony charge, Richardson could face up to two years in prison.
