Dogs belonging to squatters attack teen – one dog killed, victim in critical condition

Two dogs, belonging to squatters who have taken over a property in Auburn, WA, viciously attacked an 18-year-old woman on Tuesday. The attack left the victim with severe injuries and she is in critical condition at Harborview Medical, reports King 5 News.

Michelle Provan, a woman who witnessed the attack, told KOMO News:

“I literally watched the dog drag the girl from one side of the street to the other and yank on her arm, she had a bloody face and all parts of her body, the dogs ripped her clothes off. It should have never happened to her. There is no reason.”

A good Samaritan who tried to pull the dogs off was bitten, but not severely. Responding deputies were forced to shoot and kill one of the dogs – the other was taken away by animal control. Neighbors have said that they have complained to officials about the squatters, and their dogs, but their complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

After more than two years, dog finally finds a home of his own

0
Spread the love

A dog named Finn is finally part of his very own family. Finn was taken in at the Babylon Animal Shelter in September 2019, and after all this time, he has been adopted.

Earlier this month, the shelter had created a post on Finn’s behalf, explaining that he needed a “special” owner:

Finnley needs a very special family. He is shy and sweet and looking for love. Finn is a nervous boy who needs a quiet home to learn how to be a dog. He has had a very hard life and needs an understanding and patient family to help him decompress and acclimate to home life.

In Finn’s prior life, he lived in an outside pen – where he was chained. After his owner died, he was rescued because nobody was taking care of him at all.

After years of social media posts, and thanks to a loving staff, Finn has found his “special” family. Congratulations Finn and enjoy your wonderful new life!

Sweet Lab retriever dumped at overcrowded shelter with gruesome injury survives surgery and resting

0
Spread the love

Less than a week ago, a sweet Labrador retriever had been dumped at an overcrowded shelter in Kentucky with a gruesome injury to her left wrist, leaving the bone protruding out of her skin. The wound had been left untreated for so long it developed into an extremely painful bone infection – osteomyelitis.

Kentucky Humane Society stepped up to help as the dog had no more options. At first her prognosis looked grim:

Along with her damaged leg, this poor girl is very skinny and has old wounds and scars all over of her body. We have been treating her with strong antibiotics to help stabilize her and get the infection under control. She has also been receiving medication to help ease her pain and reduce the swelling in her broken limb.

Kentucky Humane Society

Rue, as the dog has been named, underwent surgery on Tuesday to amputate her painful leg. Fortunately, she survived and is being closely monitored by the veterinarian team and continues to receive pain medication and antibiotics. Rue mostly wants to sleep, and because of her intense pain, she has not wanted to interact much with anyone.

Over the last few days, however Rue has shown great interest in chicken, and because she is so underweight, the staff is delighted she continues to eat on her own. She is too weak to stand for more than a few minutes at a time, so she is hand fed her chicken in bed.

Hopefully, Rue is on her way to recovery, but baby steps at a time, and for now everyone is trying to make sure she is tucked in with soft blankets and as comfortable as possible.

Updates to follow.

Dog spent over an hour crying at door after his owner surrendered him

Spread the love

On Tuesday, a New Jersey animal welfare agency posted a poignant image of a senior dog who had lost his home after his owner decided to surrender him. The 11-year-old dog, named Blue Bear, was waiting for his family to come back and take him home. Trenton Animals Rock explains:

Blue Bear was surrendered today and has spent the last hour crying at the door. He’s 11 years old, severely arthritic and in desperate need of a loving home tonight. The shelter is a rough place for any dog, but for a 130 lb dog who just lost their only owner, it is devastating.

The agency was not condemning Blue Bear’s owner…they were trying to find a safe place for the distraught senior dog to go. And their wish was granted. An update to the post reads:

LATEST: IN FOSTER ❤️ More soon. Exhausting day. And this isn’t all of it.

A photo, and comment, explains that Blue Bear is “comfy and safe.”

This is what rescue work is all about – caring for displaced pets until they find somewhere new to go. Great work Trenton Animals Rock!

Florida man arrested for beating his dog claiming he was only disciplining him

1
Spread the love

A Golden Gate Estates man is facing felony animal cruelty charges after investigators determined he had severely beaten his dog. David Grant Harper, 29, appeared in court where Collier County Judge Michael Provost set his bond at $7,500 and ordered him to surrender all animals.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, two people contacted them on February 15 reporting they had witnessed Harper beating his dog named Diesel in the bathroom of his home. The witnesses said they could hear banging and the dog yelping for nearly an hour.

When deputies arrived, Harper denied beating Diesel and stated he had only been disciplining the dog. When he showed the deputies Diesel, the dog was visibly shaking and urinated at the sight of Harper.

A search warrant was granted to search Harper’s home and detectives found blood smears in various areas of the bathroom where the dog had been allegedly abused.

Diesel was removed from the home, and an examination of the dog by a veterinarian revealed new and old bruises throughout the dog’s body. The veterinarian determined that Diesel suffered “intentional, non-accidental acts of blunt force trauma consistent with unnecessary and repeated suffering and cruelty.”

During the investigation, detectives also came into possession of a video showing Harper violently beating the dog and punching Diesel in the face along with whipping him with a leash.

“We cannot allow innocent animals to be abused in Collier County. I am thankful that this dog is now in a safe environment and receiving care so that he can heal.”

Sheriff Kevin Rambosk

Diesel is being cared for at a secure location and CCSO will file paperwork to legally seize him. Anyone with additional information about this case, is asked to contact the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

The owners of Henry, star of the “Henry the Colorado Dog,” social media accounts, have updated fans about his recent cancer diagnosis. Last week, his followers learned that he was recently diagnosed with “one of the bad” types of cancer. On Tuesday, Henry’s people shared more about what they have learned:

Unfortunately, there is no surgery option for Henry which is devastating. He’s been started on chemo and we’re keeping a very close on eye on him to see if he has any side affects. We want him to feel as good and happy as possible and will always choose to do what’s best for him. But right now he’s completely himself and up + about 💕
We’re also giving him Turkey Tail mushrooms and CBD. The CBD is really helping him!

Everyone who follows Henry (and his feline friend, Baloo) loves him. And his fans are grieving. Henry’s people are appreciative of the support, writing:

Your support has been wonderfully overwhelming and we keep telling Henry how loved he is around the world. If love could save Henry, I’m pretty sure he would live forever. Love you guys and thank you so much for all your love and support.

Truck stolen with young puppy inside

0
Spread the love

On Sunday, a thief stole a man’s 2002 Ford F250 from the parking lot of a Safeway in Seatac, WA. Inside the truck was a young puppy named Lucca. As reported by Fox News, the 10-week-old Labrador retriever was in a crate in the truck, and his family is desperate to get him back.

Missing puppy, Lucca

David Rose, with Fox 13 News, reached out to the public for help on Monday, writing:

A 10-week-old yellow lab mix puppy named ‘Lucca’ was inside a crate in the truck and was also stolen. ‘Lucca’s’ owner is pleading for his return.
Her boyfriend took him to the grocery store with him because he was making a bunch of noise while she was on a Zoom call. He was trying to help her out. She says he feels absolutely terrible about what happened. Please don’t blame the victim. Blame the thief!

The truck was spotted in White Center on Monday, but the authorities could not pursue the vehicle because the driver refused to stop (current laws in place in Washington state prevent the police from pursuit – even if the vehicle is stolen).

The missing truck has a toolbox in the back and a winch on the front, with WA License #BPY1099.

If you spot the truck or know where ‘Lucca’ is, please call 911 and reference case number C22005952.

Rusty is old with diminished vision and nearly deaf but wants to find a loving home with a soft bed

3
Spread the love

The Dogs of Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center is asking for the public’s help finding Rusty one last home – one where he can be loved and cherished and made to feel as comfortable as any other old dog would want.

Rusty is a Jack Russell terrier and needs a hero.

Oh Rusty! He’s old…. real old! He is in rough shape, has diminished vision, deaf, and maybe a bit senile. He likes food, comfy beds, and sunny spots to lay in. We don’t know what life he had before coming to us but we want his final time to be great. He is a hospice adoption.

Dogs of Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center FB

At this time, Rusty’s lab work appears to be in good order, and he does not seem to be in any discomfort. This special needs pup, however wants a family who understands this “old crunchy guy” might not have much time left, but he deserves to be loved and spoiled every day. And when it comes time, it is hoped his family will be with him to tell him what a good boy he is and to enjoy playtime at the Rainbow Bridge.

If you would like to meet him, please call 757-385-4444 or go to Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center to make an appointment. Please share his plight with friends, family and social media contacts. No one wants Rusty to spend his last days, weeks, months or years at a shelter. We can make the difference.

After a ‘very long stay’ at shelter, wolfdogs have found safe haven

0
Spread the love

Last summer, eight hard-to-place wolf dog mixes were taken in by a shelter in North Carolina. On February 14, the Orange County Animal Services facility let followers of the ongoing situation know that, after a “very long stay,” all of the wolfdogs had found somewhere safe to go. The animal welfare agency writes:

All wolfdogs have been safely and humanely placed with organizations that are committed to giving them a good life. The remaining 3 wolfdogs left OCAS last night (2/16)!

Many of you have been following the story of the wolfdogs that entered our facility in 2021. After a very long stay with us, 5 of them have found appropriate sanctuary placement! So, we wanted to post the happy update!

On February 11, three of the wolfdogs went to a sanctuary in Wisconsin (Heroes and Hybrids program at Mattersville). And on January 30, two fo the wofldogs went to Wolfwood Refuge in Colorado. The agency expressed happiness that the situation had been resolved on a positive note:

We are so incredibly happy to see these beautiful animals find appropriate placement where they can thrive. Many thanks to OCAS staff for all of their care and hard work, and of course many thanks to these amazing organizations for providing wonderful homes!

The wolfdogs were originally taken in at the animal services facility after a total of 12 got loose from their owner’s property and had to be captured; one of the escaped wolfdogs died after being hit by a car and two were never found. One of the dogs turned out to be a German shepherd and it was adopted to a new home.
