Update 2/28/2022: She was saved! The shelter posted this update late Monday afternoon:

❤️❤️UPDATE: A rescue had committed to saving MONDAY! But just in time an adopter came and gave this girl a home!!!! Thank you all for the shares and networking to save this girl!!!!!!

A dog in Jones County, Georgia, is living on borrowed time. The dog, named Monday, is at the Jones County Animal Services facility and she needs to be adopted or rescued by days end or she will be put down.

The shelter reached out via social media on Monday, explaining the dire situation:

We have tried our best to save MONDAY from being euthanized. She is approximately 2 years old and good with people but not other dogs. She is sponsored so her adoption fee which includes spay, rabies shot, vaccines, and a microchip is already paid. MONDAY is heartworm positive but we have a rescue that will pay for 1 visit to a vet of their choice (the rescue’s choice) to examine her and get her started on heartworm treatment!

She has until 5 pm today to get out

Woman facing felony charge after moving out, leaving dogs to starve

A 23-year-old Miller County, Arkansas, woman is facing a felony charge of animal cruelty after she moved out of her residence, leaving three dogs behind to starve. According to KTLA News, on February 14 deputies with the Miller County Sheriff’s Office found three dogs at the home where Alyssa Monaghan had lived until November. One of the dogs had died, and the surviving dogs were emaciated.

Deputy Hayden Richardson and Sgt. Wesley Penny reported finding a dachshund and a large heeler inside of the home – the dogs were skeletal and had no access to food or water. Another dog, described as a black and tan dachshund, had died. The home on 6300 block of Miller Co. Rd. 10 was described as being littered with feces and trash and there was blood found smeared on the walls.

The resident that called the police stated that she saw Monaghan move out of the house on November 10 – she called for help after seeing a dog stick its head out of a broken window on February 14.

Newborn puppies discovered in dumpster filled with tar rescued in San Antonio

Tragically, it is sad to report that terrible occurrences involving animal cruelty happens every day. Fortunately, with the help of a Good Samaritan who used her ears and instinct along with the partners at the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services, five newborn puppies were rescued on Monday morning.

Mrs. B had been outside at work when she heard faint noises in the distance. As she followed the whereabouts of the sounds, she arrived at a dumpster, and as she moved closer, she realized the noises were actually tiny puppy sounds.

Sure enough, five little puppies, with eyes still closed, were sealed in the dumpster that was filled with tar. She immediately called 311 for fear that the pups wouldn’t last long.

When officers from Life Saving Initiatives arrived, Mrs. B had wrapped the puppies in blankets and was holding them near where they had been found. The puppies were rushed back to the San Antonio Animal Care where they were cleaned.

The Animal Defense League of Texas stepped forward and are caring for the little ones. Now they will have a chance at life and when they are well enough and old enough to be adopted, these five innocent puppies will find their “furever” and loving homes.

Cheers! After 384 days at shelter, dog is finally adopted

On February 17, volunteers and staff at the San Antonio Pets Alive shelter celebrated the adoption of a dog who had been in their care for 384 days. The dog, named Fauna, had been surrendered with her puppies in January 2021; all of Fauna’s pups found homes, but their mom was left behind.

When Fauna was finally adopted, “Everyone was in tears of joy.”

According to the animal welfare agency, Fauna was a so-called “foster failure.”

Our fosters, Cyanna and Jeremiah, stepped up and worked with Fauna for months with the help of our other foster who is a dog trainer. With time, Fauna warmed up to them and their dog. They quickly fell in love with this precious girl and knew they had to adopt her!

The shelter never gave up on Fauna, writing:

We never lost hope in Fauna, and we knew that the perfect family was out there. Happy Tails to Fauna and her new family!

Thanking those who helped them celebrate her special “Gotcha” day!

‘Very affectionate’ dog smiles with hope that someone will adopt her

A homeless dog, described by a shelter volunteer as “very affectionate,” smiles with hope each time a human approaches her…hoping that someone will decide that she is worthy of their love, and that they will take her home. The year-old dog, named Miss, is at ACCT Philly, and she is longing for someone to adopt her.

Miss’ advocate writes:

Miss is such a sweet girl. When you approach her in her kennel she has the same smile on her face that you see in the pics, because she’s so happy to be getting out and heading outside with her volunteer mates . She’s pretty small and easily controlled on her leash and very affectionate.

Information from Miss’ adoption profile:

Miss is incredibly smart and knows a multitude of commands, her favorite being to “sit pretty” like a little circus dog. She loves toys, walks well on a leash, and is highly food motivated.

According to this dog’s adoption profile, the stress of being held in a kennel is taking a toll.

Cruel man intercepted by authorities carrying puppy upside down by its hind legs

At the Cape of Good Hope in Cape Town, South Africa, a cruel man selling a puppy on the side of the road ran into a Good Samaritan who no doubt with help from other kind people, all became the defenseless puppy’s hero.

According to the Cape Of Good Hope SPCA, authorities received an anonymous report with photographs. The complaint stated:

He was trying to sell me the puppy and when I refused he started to carry it by the hind legs. The puppy was very afraid of him. He put it down to rummage in a dustbin and it tried to get away. I was on my own and he was ignoring me.

Inspector Rudolph Philander immediately responded to the call for help and when he arrived, the man was seen walking down the road in Pinelands carrying the puppy by its hind legs until neighborhood patrol watchers apprehended him and rescued the puppy.

The puppy has since been transferred to the SPCA for treatment. Animal cruelty charges are currently being considered.

If you see something, say something. A puppy is safe now because a Good Samaritan reacted to a cruel person trying to harm an innocent and defenseless puppy.

Dog found in pile of trash and avoids truck compactor recovering from his injuries

In Doral, Florida, a tiny Shih Tzu was found in the trash, and after his frightening experience continues to be on the mend and is expected to be in a new, loving home as soon as he is feeling better.

According to WsvnNews, the dog, now named Oscar, was found at the Northeast Transfer Station on Thursday after he was spotted by a waste equipment operator moving in the trash pile. Had the equipment operator not seen Oscar, he likely would have been compacted after the trash passed into the truck.

The scared little dog was rushed to Miami Dade Animal Services where the ten-year-old pooch will be moving on to a better life. When found, he was matted and dirty, but he seems to be in relatively good health.

Our veterinary team took a look at him. He seems in pretty good health, other than the fact he’s got some puncture wounds that are healing now but were infected. His ears are really, really bad, and his fur was so matted that we basically had to shave him down.

Someone watching the news about Oscar has already reached out to adopt him, but the dog must remain in the custody of MDAS until his lost and missing wait time is over.

Hugging sister pups on euthanasia list

At the Devore Animal Shelter in California, two hugging pittie mix sisters have been placed on the euthanasia list. Both two-year-old dogs were surrendered by their owner, and sadly the information which could help with their rescue placement is limited.

This is what we know thus far:
