Two-year-old Cane Corso missing for more than a year reunited with his family

Spread the love

In Laplata, Maryland, a two-year-old Cane Corso, named Buddy, missing for more than a year, has been reunited with his family. His owner Jacquawn Cummings is thankful for his community’s support and help.

Buddy ran away from PetSmart while undergoing training. An animal tracker was hired to help find him, and it was thought that someone had stolen the dog, and he had just not run into the woods. The dog’s scent stopped at a gate after a family member had chased him right after the dog ran away. The family never stopped looking for Buddy and regularly posted on social media in various Facebook groups hoping someone had seen their dog.

Dozens of people notified the family of sightings – the dog had been seen in surveillance videos and pictures around the neighborhood until the clues stopped again.

And then it happened; one day someone from one of the Facebook groups saw Buddy at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. When the family arrived at the shelter, they were ecstatic. It was Buddy, and the family was reunited. Whoever stole Buddy, had his ears clipped and eventually let him wander away.

The rest is history and for sure a very happy reunion. Never give up hope.

Every week we share found animals that come to the AWLA with the hope of reconnecting them with their families. Last week, we posted a cane corso we called Dino, and a family reached out, wondering if it could possibly be their dog Buddy, separated from his family more than a year ago. Buddy had been sighted for months on neighborhood surveillance cameras near his Maryland home, but when he stopped showing up, his family feared the worst, though they did not stop their search. So when they saw Dino’s photo last week, they immediately reached out to see if it could be their Buddy. We were thrilled to find that Dino was indeed Buddy, and his family was overjoyed to be reunited with him this past weekend! From Buddy and his family, thank you to everyone who shares our stray listings so we can #HelpThemHome. #HappyTails like Buddy’s are made possible because of you!

Update 2/8/2022: From the shelter:

UPDATE 2.8.22 – CCACS is deeply saddened to inform the public that due to Baby Boy’s declining conditions this morning, the decision had been made to humanely euthanize. Despite the greatly positive response we received from our rescue partners and the multiple pending tags that came in, Baby Boy’s conditions declined before we were able to find him placement. Even though he was stabilized, triaged and treated by our vet staff and was stable overnight, we want to thank everyone who has worked hard to help network him and advocate for our animals!

A young dog, not even two years of age, is desperately in need of help. The pup, dubbed Baby Boy, was brought to Corpus Christi Animal Care Services, in Texas, on February 7, and he needs to be tagged for rescue early tomorrow, or he will be put down.

Focus on Furever is pleading for a foster home to come forward, writing:

RESCUES INTEREST ANYONE WHO CAN FOSTER?

Information shared about the pup’s situation:

Baby Boy A344230 was brought in today 2.7.22 as part of a cruelty case. He was seen by our vet and given medications. He is QAR but friendly with staff. The injuries were most likely caused by an embedded collar and has some facial swelling. Please let us know if your rescue can help!

Time is of the essence. This young dog has not experienced anything in the way of love or kindness in his short life. Please help him have the chance to know what it means to be loved – networking saves lives!

Rescue email [email protected]

Note: There is rescue interest, but Baby Boy needs a temporary foster home until 2/18.

Dog adopted after more than 640 days, then returned to shelter

1
Spread the love

A dog named Bentley was adopted after more than 640 days at the Pennsylvania SPCA. The shelter was thrilled that the handsome boy finally found his forever family. On December 30, they posted about his adoption, writing in part:

Bentley’s road to that home was long. He was rescued by the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement team just a few weeks into a pandemic. Little did we know that he’d spend nearly two years in our care.

But, all along, we knew there was a home out there for him. You knew there was a home out there for him too.
And a home there was. Bentley’s new family includes a mom and dad and a canine sibling with maybe the best name – Chompers. They met Bentley at the PSPCA many times, sometimes with their pup, sometimes without. Bentley’s best volunteer friends even brought him to their house for a visit to make sure it was the right match.
On Tuesday, December 28, Bentley went home.

Sadly, things did not work out for Bentley. On January 31, the shelter broke the news to Facebook followers, writing:

“Some love stories aren’t epic novels – some are short stories, but that doesn’t make them any less filled with love.”
When beautiful Bentley left for his home on December 28, we had so hoped it was finally his #furever. For 25 days our special senior boy lived with the best adopters, but it was not to be.
Bentley made it clear that he wants to be an only pup.

And with yet another holiday fast approaching, the animal welfare agency is hopeful that someone will choose sweet Bentley to be their Valentine:

We were so hopeful in the New Year we wouldn’t be sharing our beautiful grey-faced man, Bentley. But, alas, here we are. We still believe in love, and we know Bentley does too. He’s hoping to capture someone’s heart and it truly be #furever. Bentley doesn’t ask for much, just a quiet home with his people, and no other animals. Some comfy beds and blankets would be much appreciated too.

Steve Irwin’s son nearly attacked by 13-foot highly aggressive crocodile

A 13-foot highly aggressive and rare type of crocodile nearly attacked the son of the late Steve Irwin while filming the latest series episode at the Australia Zoo. The crocodile, named Casper, weighs 770 pounds and measures nearly 13-feet in length.

According to the Express, Robert Irwin, 18, was forced to flee or “bail” when the “leucistic” croc charged at him. At the time, Robert had been testing if Casper was comfortable enough in his new enclosure to be featured at the zoo’s show. The croc ignored the chicken parts Irwin had been offering it, and instead charged for the teen with its jaws snapping.

Irwin narrowly escaped injury. The leucistic saltwater crocodile, which is missing the dark skin pigment and appears lighter in color that other crocodiles, is by far one of the aggressive crocodiles the zoo has ever encountered. Casper’s companion, named Wendy, suffers from the same condition. Had they been left out in the wild, they likely would not have survived.

The footage uploaded to Irwin’s Instagram showed Casper leaping out of the water and snapping his jaws at Irwin; who dropped the chicken meat and turned around, yelling, “Bail, bail, bail!”

In 2006, Robert’s dad, Steve, 44, died while filming a documentary at Australia’s Great Barrier Reef when he was mortally stung by a stingray in the chest.

After 244 days, Mila is set to be put down on Tuesday

Update 2/9/2022: Mila has been adopted!

Tomorrow, February 8, a six-year-old dog named Mila is set to be put down at the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control facility in Texas. The dog’s heartbreaking situation was shared on social media on Monday morning in a post that details Mila’s fate:

after 244 days waiting at the shelter, tomorrow she will either leave through the front or back doors of the shelter.. depends on if one person will step up and save her life.
🆘LAST CALL🆘 Mila is set to be euthanized Tuesday, 2/8. Must be tagged for rescue, foster, or adoption by tomorrow at 8 am.

Mila was picked up as a stray in June, and since that time, her days behind bars have resulted in her deteriorating both physically and emotionally. The Facebook post outlines the devastating impact being stuck in the shelter environment has taken on this homeless dog:

She’s last call for kennel neurosis, declining in care. Animal has lost weight in care, is drooling excessively (soaked chest) and is licking kennel door / walls. She has been started on trazodone with no noticeable improvement.

Mila had one break from the animal control facility, and during that time, her true personality shined through:

Thankfully she spent time in a foster home for a slumber party so we know what an amazing girl she is outside the shelter environment. She is so sweet, does better with male dogs, house trained, loves human affection! She loves treats, exploring outside and does great in the car. I think she would do great around kids, but probably no cats. She would probably be dog friendly with proper and slow introductions!

Mila is heartbroken and she needs help fast. Please share Mila’s information before she becomes a forgotten statistic.

Important information 📌DO NOT CALL THE SHELTER! Adoptions must be done in person. 📩 All rescue tags must be sent via EMAIL: [email protected]📍This animal is located at Fort Worth Animal Care and Control/North Animal Campus- 351 Hillshire Fort Worth, TX 76052

Adopted from Baldwin Park Shelter at 2 and returned to the shelter at 11 poor girl is sad and scared

A Labrador retriever had been adopted from the Baldwin Park Shelter in California when she was two-years-old, and on February 4, 2022, she was returned to the shelter – now 11-years-old with a painful eye infection.

It is heartbreaking to watch her video and hear her advocates describe how sad and scared she is at the shelter.

She doesn’t go in the inside of the kennel because it’s louder in there. So she just sits on the cold hard floor on the outer part of the kennel. So awful. We gotta get this sweet girl a family…

Dog perishes in fire after incessant barking to save woman inside

0
Spread the love

A woman is hailing her family’s dog a hero after he did all that he could to save her mother from a devastating fire in American Fork, Utah. As reported by Your Basin News, Bleu the dog began incessantly barking late last month when a fire broke out inside of his home. Bleu was trying to rouse MaKayla Bernardo Fox’s mother, who was sound asleep at the time.

The smoke and barking caught the attention of two officers who were in the area. When they went to investigate, they heard “screaming” from inside and it turned out that it was Bleu’s barking. The police were able to access the house, and with the help of neighbors, two small dogs were lured from harm’s way. But there was no happy ending for Bleu, who refused to leave and perished in the burning home.

Fox told the news agency:

“Our family dog passed away, but we’re super lucky. Because if it wasn’t for Bleu, my mom probably wouldn’t have made it, because they wouldn’t have known she was in the house,

A fundraiser has been started to help the family who lost their home.

Family’s missing cat found after 7 years, and nearly 1500 miles away from home

1
Spread the love

A microchip has helped reunite a family in Maine with their cat, who vanished seven years ago. The cat, named Ashes, disappeared in the summer of 2015 and after fruitless searching, her family assumed that she had fallen prey to an animal.

Fast forward to January 2022, when the family received an unexpected phone call from a veterinary office in Longwood, Florida, letting them know that their long-lost cat was alive and well…nearly 1500 miles away. Fortunately, Denise Cilley, the cat’s owner, had kept her contact information up-to-date with the microchip company and because of that, the veterinary office was able to let the family know that Ashes had been found.

On GoFundMe, Ashes’ story was recounted:

She had been found as a stray and cared for by a local citizen who then brought her in for care when she exhibited symptoms of illness. A routine scan was able to identify Denise as the owner. She had kept the chip information updated and answered the phone when the vet called.

According to the fundraiser, a Southwest Airlines employee volunteered to fly Ashes from Florida to Maine. As soon as Ashes receives medical clearance, her trip home could be arranged. On February 4, an update revealed heartwarming news, Ashes would be home soon:

Ashes got the all clear to travel! She has her vaccination card in her paw and she is packing her bags as I write this. The vet thinks her jaw and teeth issue is an old injury that is stable at this time. We have met our fundraising goal. If you care to still donate, Denise has pledged to use any funds not needed for Ashes for microchip programs at needy shelters!

Remember – microchip your pets, AND keep your contact information current.

Heartbreaking: Sweet suffering dog left outside of animal shelter rushed to emergency veterinarian care

1
Spread the love

At Richmond Animal Care and Control in Virginia, Sunday morning turned out to be heartbreaking when the staff arrived and found a sweet, suffering dog had been abandoned outside of the director’s office window. The dog could not stand, was freezing cold, emaciated and had dirt just pouring out of his mouth.

His frail body was quickly scooped up, and in the arms of the shelter’s director, he was gently placed in her vehicle and rushed to the Virginia Veterinarian Centers. Her heated seats were turned up on high just trying to raise his body temperature and hoping he would make it alive to the emergency hospital. Upon arrival, the staff at VVC jumped to help.

The dog’s body temperature was too low to register, and his blood pressure wasn’t strong enough to even place an intravenous line. They warmed him up, started sub Q fluids and everyone waited – hoping he would survive and his frail body could fight.

Happily, the dog survived the night and an intravenous line was successfully inserted. He is being closely monitored; his prognosis at this time is still unknown.

Keep him and us in your thoughts and prayers today. This job is hard – our team is constantly at odds inside our head and hearts wrestling with the inhumanity and the desire to help end the suffering of those pets that have been abused, abandoned and neglected.

We are so grateful to each of you for your continued support – it keeps us off the floor in a puddle of tears and at work fighting the good fight.
