Pregnant loyal Lab abandoned with beloved toy gives birth to puppies

Spread the love

A sight that would melt even the frostiest of hearts has left staff at the Sonoma County Animal Services and Dogwood Animal Rescue Project scratching their heads. A beautiful, honey-colored Labrador Retriever, lovingly nicknamed “Amber” by shelter workers, was found abandoned just outside the doors of an animal shelter last week. But Amber wasn’t alone. Curled up beside her, visibly heavy with puppies, was Amber’s most prized possession; a well-worn, mismatched sock puppet.

In the wee dark hours of Wednesday morning, Mama Amber was left tied in front of an animal shelter with her stuffy. She was underweight and very pregnant but was left somewhere she would be safe, and with her stuffy, which suggests a level of concern. We think whoever left her cared, but was truly desperate. Perhaps homeless or without money for food or care.

Dogwood Animal Rescue Project

The moment the vet tech saw the young Labrador retriever whimpering and clutching her sock puppet, it was clear the toy was very special to Amber.

Amber went into labor almost immediately and was comforted and cared for throughout delivery by the shelter staff. Early the next morning, Dogwood Animal Rescue Project arrived and brought her to a foster home well prepared for the mom and her new family.

It had been a rough few days for Amber. For her first 24 hours, she mostly slept in her warm quiet bed. Of course, she was exhausted from being left at the shelter and then immediately going into labor and delivering her six puppies. She was extremely nervous, pacing back and forth and causing her puppies to cry.

She seemed disconnected from her pups, something we’ve seen a few times, where mamas start to fret a few days after the birth. Sort of a post partum anxiety that usually resolves with time, patience, encouragement and feeling safe. By this evening Amber is calm, settled and attentive to her babies again.

Dogwood Animal Rescue Project

Volunteers from the Dogwood Animal Rescue Project still hope to give the dog’s previous owner the benefit of the doubt. Of course, we all know it is illegal and heartless to abandon any pet, and double the disappointment knowing Amber was emaciated and very pregnant, but perhaps the owner was desperate? Maybe he had no other option than to leave his beloved dog somewhere she could be helped? Maybe the previous owner has been following Amber’s plight and now knows that she is safe.

Sadly, one of the puppies passed away, but the other puppies are reported doing fine. As Amber continues to gain weight and her puppies continue to thrive, please follow the organization’s Facebook page for future adoption information.

11 German shepherd puppies abandoned in woods as they now fight for their lives

1
Spread the love

In Henry County, Virginia, animal control officers were called out on March 5 to rescue four abandoned German shepherd puppies. Hours later, however they received another call about seven more shepherd puppies found less than a mile down the road from the others. It was not a coincidence.

According to the Henry County Animal Shelter, the puppies had been abandoned in the woods – left all alone and vulnerable to predators, lack of food and water and weather conditions. Shelter personnel stressed the shelter is an open intake establishment for Henry County residents, and the owners of the puppies could have easily surrendered them to the shelter and guaranteed their immediate safety as opposed to dropping them off in the woods to fend for themselves at approximately eight weeks of age.

5 of them have needed extensive medical treatment and 2 of these puppies are fighting for their lives. Virginia German Shepherd Rescue needs your help. They are looking at thousands and thousands of dollars in medical expenses to save these babies… donate to their care, and adopt when they are ready!

Henry County Animal Shelter

The puppies are in the care of Virginia German Shepherd Rescue, and currently four of the puppies testing positive for parvovirus are struggling to survive. Another puppy has a severe load of parasites.

These babies were hospitalized and we have spent in the upwards of $10,000 for one night due to the cost of services in their area. This afternoon we transported them to a different ER where we’re hoping the cost will be more affordable.

Virginia German Shepherd Rescue

These tiny balls of fur, now estimated to be around 11 weeks old, were discovered by concerned citizens who stumbled upon their whimpers echoing through the woods. Thankfully, they were brought to safety, but the ordeal had already taken its toll. Two of the puppies were noticeably lethargic and showed signs of illness. A swift trip to the veterinarian confirmed the worst – parvovirus. Unfortunately two more puppies have since tested positive for the disease.

Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease that attacks a puppy’s intestinal tract. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and dehydration. Without prompt medical attention, parvo can be deadly, especially for young puppies with undeveloped immune systems.

Rescuers and their veterinarian staff have been fighting tirelessly to save the pups. Veterinary treatment for parvo requires intensive care, including intravenous fluids, medication, and specialized diets. The cost of this life-saving care can be significant, putting a strain on the organization’s already stretched resources.

Oh Chunk, what happened to you and how did you end up in a shelter in Dallas scheduled to be euthanized because no one has come to your aid?

Shelter and rescue volunteer Murphy Rescued, is asking everyone to just take a look at three-year-old Chunk and share his heartbreaking story. No one really knows how he ended up at the Dallas shelter, but when spotted by animal rescue officers, he had been homeless and in order to help him, they had to set a humane trap.

did something happen to his human he got left behind? He would give anything to be invisible and find a spot to hide.

Shelter volunteer

Chunk needs someone with a huge heart and patience to help. Surely there is someone out there who will see his photos and want to show him there are still good people out here to make his life beautiful.

So what kind of home would Chunk do best? He needs a home with a backyard where he can explore and feel the soft cool grass under his paws again. He won’t thrive as an apartment pup nor does he like the fast pace of lots of people and noise.

Today, Sunday is Chunk’s last day at Dallas Animal Services because life in a shelter has been an emotional trauma for this gentle soul. Emotional wellbeing for a dog is very important.

Please share Chunk’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. To save this dog’s life, please email [email protected] or call 972.584.7132.

Canadian goose rescued from canal with dog chain around its neck

1
Spread the love

A Canadian goose in Rochdale, England, had a lucky escape thanks to the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) after being found struggling in a canal with a four-foot dog chain wrapped around its neck.

Distressing Situation

The RSPCA was called out on March 18th after reports of a goose in distress on the Rochdale Canal near Middleton. The animal rescue team arrived to find the goose dragging the lengthy chain, which was secured by a self-tightening collar. This cruel contraption significantly restricted the goose’s ability to swim and fly.

RSPCA Takes Action

According to the Oldham Evening Chronicle, RSPCA officers, Stephen Wickham and Mark Buggie, quickly assessed the situation. “We were initially told the goose was tangled up in something,” explained Wickham. “But upon arrival, it was clear a long dog chain was wrapped around its neck.”

We were initially told the goose was tangled up in something, but upon arrival, it was clear a long dog chain was wrapped around its neck.

We were fortunate the goose wasn’t strangled by the chain. It’s the most unusual case I’ve encountered in my years of rescuing water birds.

Officer Wickham

Rescue and Recovery

The rescue team used an inflatable boat to safely capture the goose. Thankfully, a vet check revealed no lasting injuries.

Cruel and Irresponsible Act

The RSPCA believes someone deliberately placed the chain on the goose in an attempt to walk it, calling the act “irresponsible, cruel, and foolhardy.” Wild animals are not pets and should not be treated as such.

Released Back to the Wild

After removing the chain and receiving a clean bill of health, the rescued goose was released back to its natural habitat.

Spreading Awareness

This incident highlights the importance of respecting wildlife. Wild animals belong in their natural environment and should not be interfered with. The RSPCA urges the public to contact them if they witness any animal cruelty.

Heartbreaking experience for tiny poodle with his muzzle intentionally tied attacked by large dog

A two-year-old tiny white poodle, weighing only 10 pounds, needs the help of a rescue partner immediately. Her story is heartbreaking, and whoever is responsible for such animal cruelty hopefully will be apprehended and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Meet Bonnie (#A536557) who is currently in the care of the City of San Bernardino Animal Services. According to volunteers at the shelter, a witness saw the tiny dog being attacked by a large dog. The Good Samaritan ran to help, but as he approached, the owner of the large dog drove away with his dog and left Bonnie to suffer from her injuries on the side of the road.

The witness noticed the poodle’s muzzle had been tied shut, and tried to help. He drove to a feed store to purchase medicine, but soon realized he did not have the funds to take the dog to a veterinarian for proper treatment. Instead, he brought the dog to the shelter for help.

The veterinarian for the shelter removed the embedded hair tie, cleaned the wound and sent Bonnie back to the shelter with antibiotics and pain medicine. She is now available to be rescued.

2 abandoned newborn puppies found in mailbox at known crack house in North Carolina

1
Spread the love

Animal control Officers from Charlotte, North Carolina were called on Tuesday to a known crack house in Lancaster. The report was “there are puppies in the mail box”.

When agents arrived, indeed there were two puppies in the mailbox. It was Forgotten, Now Family Rescue who stepped up to help. Although rescuers have witnessed many disturbing situations, this was the first for this truly heartbreaking discovery.

Officers didn’t secure a mom or any other babies and this feels so off and heart breaking to me. These babies almost starved to death so we are taking them in and bottle feeding immediately. Thankfully a tech from the shelter loved on them overnight until we can take over this morning. Today we will send our own team over to the area to look for strays and and possible signs of more in need from us.

Facebook Rescue page

A team of rescuers were also sent to the area that same afternoon to look for strays and and possible signs of more in need. The sick human who put them in a mailbox deserves to be charged, and it is hoped more information will be brought forward. These babies deserve better.

Urgent Need for Foster Care or Adoption

These puppies are too young to be placed in a shelter environment. They require specialized care and a nurturing environment to thrive. This is where you, the animal-loving public, can step in and make a real difference.

  • Become a Foster Parent: If you have the space, resources, and most importantly, the love to foster these puppies, please consider opening your home to them. They will need bottle feeding, warmth, and constant attention until they are old enough to be adopted.
  • Adopt a Forever Friend: Are you looking to add a furry companion to your life? Opening your heart and home to one of these puppies would not only give them a loving family, but also free up space in the rescue system for other animals in need.

Together We Can Make a Difference

By sharing this story, fostering, or adopting, you can play a vital role in the happy ending these puppies deserve. Every like, share, and adoption inquiry brings them closer to finding a loving forever home.

Here’s How You Can Help

  • Contact to inquire about fostering or adopting the puppies.

Abandoned puppy found curled up in Missouri trash pile

0
Spread the love

A heartwarming story of resilience and kindness on Wednesday comes from Missouri, where a group of environmental volunteers found an abandoned puppy curled up in a pile of trash.

The lucky pup was discovered by a team scouting for cleanup locations in the St. Louis area. The team, comprised of members from the Missouri Stream Team, Beyond Housing, and citizens from a tiered community, stumbled upon the young dog curled up amidst garbage bags and debris.

Thankfully, the story takes a turn for the better. On Wednesday, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shared on Facebook that Stream Team Coordinator Brian Waldrop stepped up to foster and has since adopted, the puppy.

thank you for saving this little guy! So thankful your crew was in the right place at the right time. Otherwise this little guy possibly wouldn’t have made it. Why are people so cruel and heartless? Thank you for saving and giving him a home

Facebook comment

The MDC’s Facebook post featured pictures (included) of the pup’s ordeal. One image showed the small, white dog nestled amongst trash bags, while another showed the happy pup cleaned up and sporting a pink leash. The heartwarming post garnered significant attention, with many praising Waldrop’s compassion and the rescue efforts.

From Trash to Treasure: A Second Chance for a Deserving Pup

This story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership. There are many resources available to pet owners struggling to care for their animals. Shelters and rescue organizations can often provide assistance with pet food, vet care, and rehoming, if necessary. Abandoning a pet is not only cruel, but it can also put the animal’s life at risk.

Looking for a New Furry Friend? Consider Adoption!

The MDC’s act of kindness is a shining example of how communities can come together to help animals in need. If you’re looking to add a furry friend to your family, consider adopting from a local shelter or rescue organization. Many wonderful dogs, cats, and other animals are waiting for their forever homes.

Spreading the Word: How You Can Help

By sharing stories like this, we can raise awareness about the importance of animal welfare and encourage responsible pet ownership. Here are some ways you can help:

  • Share this article and other pet adoption stories on social media.
  • Donate to your local animal shelter or rescue organization.
  • Volunteer your time to help care for animals in need.
  • Consider fostering a pet to give them a temporary loving home.

Abandoned pup wearing pain patch found in excruciating pain successfully underwent surgery

Urgent rescue help was needed by Wednesday afternoon, March 20 in West Palm Beach, Florida for a tiny two-year-old Chihuahua dubbed Yellow who had been abandoned by his owner in a suspected heartless act of neglect and cruelty. The dog was discovered by a Good Samaritan who spotted the dog across the street from the shelter walking around.

The tiny pup, dubbed Yellow, had been wearing a surgery onesie as well as a patch on his back that said not to touch unless removed by a veterinarian. He also had a note on him stating he had just been out of surgery that morning. By the next morning, the puppy had awakened screaming in pain.

Yellow had been taken to the Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control who called out to area rescue organizations for immediate help. Fortunately, it was Big Dog Ranch who stepped in to rescue Yellow. Their rescue team arrived at Veterinary Emergency Group where Yellow had been taken for emergency care and transferred him to Dr. Nye at VCA Palm Beach Veterinarian Specialists.

When examined, Yellow had been in excruciating pain, and the MRI revealed the dog had an injured disc requiring emergency lifesaving surgery.

And now for the update:

Yellow successfully underwent surgery yesterday afternoon. Dr. Nye managed to remove disc material from Yellow’s neck. Today, he’s more comfortable and on the path to recovery. Yellow is a music fan and finds reggae music soothing. While he currently cannot walk on his own, we are hopeful that he will regain this ability in the coming days to weeks. Yellow is not yet ready to be discharged from the hospital and is expected to stay at least until tomorrow, if not longer, as we manage his post-operative discomfort and anxiety. We are profoundly grateful for everyone’s prayers and continued donations towards Yellow’s recovery.
