Heartbreaking: Closely bonded pup howled in distress as she left her beloved person to say goodbye

0
Spread the love

Sophie had the most heartbreaking goodbye with her bonded person this week. Her story isn’t just about rescue; her story encompasses love, loss and the deep heartbreak of a dog who doesn’t understand why her world suddenly changed.

Sweet Sophie had her person; her gentle, loving momma adored her. They were a perfect pair. The two found comfort in each other. They were always together, and that was just fine. But then, beyond her mom’s control, she had to move into a retirement home and could not bring Sophie with her.

She had to say goodbye… forever.

When her foster mom arrived to take Sophie to her temporary home and to say her final goodbye, she put Sophie into her vehicle. The dog wagged her tail, trying to be brave.

But as they drove away, her kind foster softly said,

Don’t worry, little Sophie… we’re gonna find you a new momma.

The second Sophie heard the word “Momma”, she looked out the window and began to howl — long, aching cries, like she was calling out for the one person she would never see again. She knew the word “momma.” It shattered her foster’s heart into a thousand pieces.

Now Sophie waits. Her bed feels empty because she slept with her momma every night. Her eyes search every face she encounters, hoping one of them might be her beloved best friend.

Sophie doesn’t need much; she just needs someone with a kind heart, a warm lap and gentle hands; someone who will tell her it’s okay to love again.

Originally adopted from Bambi’s Army Rescue of K9S, she is now five years old. She does not really care about cats. Her foster home has cats and other dogs, and she’s fine with them, but she has to be alone when she eats, since she doesn’t know much about sharing and will fight with the other pets. She was raised as an only pet and never learned how to share, which includes her mom, her food, her bed and her toys.

I am adding the application form here:

If you have room in your heart, please consider adopting Sophie. She’s not just another rescue; she’s a soul who lost her home and only momma and is still waiting to be found again.

Message us to meet Sophie. Let’s show her that love always finds its way home.

Favorite shelter volunteer German shepherd still has not found his ‘furever’ home

At Mountain Pet Rescue in Colorado, a one-year-old German shepherd named Sublime, still has not been adopted. The 70-pound volunteer favorite arrived at a local animal shelter as a stray after having been found abandoned at a campsite.

Sublime walks gently when leashed and when at the park or in the yard, loves playing ball.

His manners are impeccable. He does great with nail trims, ear cleanings and grooming. (accustomed to high velocity dryer and brushing too)

We can add he is reported to be friendly with people and loves to cuddle and sleep with his person. The organization does not recommend a family with very young children to adopt this boy. He gets along with other dogs, however it has been noted, he does chase cats who run. He ignores chickens.

At this time Sublime is being fostered in the Denver area.

Mountain Pet Rescue is a foster based rescue organization and would benefit from Sublime’s perfect adoption.

At this time, rescue help is also needed for a mother dog and her seven puppies found homeless in rural Johnson County, Texas. Temperatures are dropping, and the family is dangerously close to a busy road. The organization would love to help, but need a temporary foster home (10 days) in the Dallas area to keep them safe until transport can be arranged.

Please email [email protected] asap if you can help!

Dog tied to vehicle running to survive until chain snapped rescued by kindest couple

In Nashville, Tennessee, a kind couple on a Sunday walk in their neighborhood, helped to rescue a dog that had been chained to a moving vehicle.

According to the Nashville Noticias, Shelby and Adison Harvat spotted the dog on Skyridge Drive and wanted to help find the dog’s owner. Neighbors had joined in the search but had also received videos showing the dog having been dragged by a chain behind a vehicle.

The security videos captured footage showing a silver Nissan Altima driving up and down the road earlier the morning with the dog chained to the back of the car. The dog ran and at times seemed to having been dragged trying his best to keep up with the car.

Who does this:

The chain broke, and the dog was able to run away. That’s when the couple were slowly able to build trust with the dog. They brought him home, and he didn’t want to eat or drink. He was so frightened – his tail tucked tightly between his legs tried to hide. By the next day, however, the dog was feeling better, and his sweet personality began to emerge.

The couple notified Metro Animal Care and Control who arrived on Monday. Fortunately the dog had no physical injuries. At this time, the dog can not be adopted while a criminal investigation for alleged animal cruelty continues.

Heartbreaking: Advocates raise funds for abandoned dog’s help left tied to pole in pouring rain while in active labor

In Waterbury, Connecticut, the weather was frightful; it poured all weekend. Sadly, some heartless owner had tied a dog to a pole and abandoned her; the most heartbreaking part had been that the sweet dog had been in active labor, and she had been physically struggling in the process. At the time she was discovered, one puppy had already died and a second puppy was unable to pass through the birth canal.

According to rescuers, it is believed the owner had realized the dog was in trouble while giving birth, and instead of rushing her to an emergency veterinarian, the local police or even a shelter, the person left her tied outdoors – all alone, scared, in pain and in the pouring rain and cold.

A concerned citizen found her and contacted Animal Control. When officers arrived, the dog had been in awful pain, but despite the trauma and her fright, she gently rested her chin on the officer’s shoulder as if saying “please help me” and “thank you.”

It appeared she had been in labor for days. When brought to the emergency veterinarian she was exhausted, dehydrated, and her body had been shutting down. The remaining deceased puppies needed to be removed; she had been at high risk for septic shock.

Animal Control contacted BARC CT to help because city shelters are not budgeted to fund such a massive surgery and provide continued care. As with many of these kinds of cases, the kinder option is humane euthanasia if cost of emergency treatment cannot be covered, but BARC CT hoped to rely on the community and give this dog the second chance she truly deserved.

This mother dog had already lost so much. She deserved a chance to heal, to rest, and to finally know safety and love.

This was so upsetting, not a dry eye around here and we’ve seen some pretty rough stuff.

And now for the good news!

Meet Cassie. Because of everyone’s generosity, Cassie had a very successful surgery. Her rescuers see the light coming back into her eyes, no doubt she’s saying THANK YOU to all of the incredible, compassionate angels who donated to her surgery.

What this dog lived through is unimaginable, thank you for choosing to give her a brand new life, one where she will come to learn loving caring humans exist—and can be found within our BARC COMMUNITY

Thank you for the support from CT to MA and from across the entire country! Check here for more updates.

Two bald eagles crashed into house getting stuck together rescued

In an unusual situation on Saturday, the Chicago Bird Collision Monitors received a call on their hotline reporting two eagles lying on the ground; one on top of the other, after the birds of prey crashed into a house. As unlikely as that sounds, that is exactly what the volunteer found at arrival.

The two birds were gripping onto each other with both feet and were unwilling or unable to let go. Neither appeared to have any injuries, but the staff thought it prudent to have them checked out at the DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center just to be safe.

One of the two did manage to get free and after recapturing his balance and dignity, flew away. The other was given a clean bill of health at DWCC and was returned to the wild near where it crashed.

Many thanks to Dave Murphy for calling CBCM and providing the video:

According to experts, this kind of encounter is not unusual since it is currently the beginning of breeding and nest building season.

Huge dinosaur-like bird lands on tour boat in Africa

Have you ever heard of a shoebill? Contrary to what one might opine because of their size and their prehistoric appearance from such movies as Jurassic Park and the The Lost World, these birds are more closely related to pelicans and herons.

A surprised tourist boat in Mabamba Bay, Uganda, gave the occupants on board quite the once in a lifetime experience a few days ago. The shoebill flew onto the boat, according to Mahamba Trips.

Mahamba Bay, on Lake Victoria, is known as Important Bird Area, commonly frequented with shoebills, blue swallows and papyrus gonoleks, where they are protected.

The shoebills, because of their impressive sizes and wingspans, are prime attractions. Their beak is large, shoe shaped and extremely powerful used to capture and kill fish and even baby crocodiles for food. It has razor sharp edges and a hook at the end used expertly for capturing and swallowing its prey. Their beaks are also used to communicate by clapping their jaws together which make loud clattering sounds.

Check this Instagram video out:

(The tourist is trying to take a selfie. Of course)

Shoebills are globally listed as “vulnerable,” and there are less than 8,000 throughout the areas where they exist in tropical central-eastern Africa.

According to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, these birds are famous for standing motionless like a statue and staring into the water for hours. They rarely blink and either golden green or blue eyes may be unnerving.

And even though they can be up to five feet tall, their average weight is only 16 pounds and they do fly. The good part about shoebills – they are quite human friendly.

Dog makes first miraculous steps toward recovery after set on fire at homeless camp

0
Spread the love

In South Los Angeles, a one-year-old German shepherd blend is making a miraculous recovery after having been set on fire at a homeless camp.

According to the rescue organization who stepped up to help the dog, it had been nearly two weeks ago when Luke had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sandra Viveros, with the  Compton Paw Patrol, said the horrible animal cruelty crime had been done on purpose. Luke had been set on fire and ran away trying to find help.

Later that evening, Luke was found by a Good Samaritan who rushed him to an animal hospital. Luke suffered from third and fourth degree burns which covered nearly his entire body. His recovery remains critical although his prognosis improves daily.

Luke’s condition is extremely severe. He will need to remain in intensive care for at least six weeks. Every single day, he must be placed under anesthesia so the veterinary team can clean his burns, keep the tissue healthy, and change his bandages.

He’s also on 24/7 oxygen support due to serious smoke inhalation. The road to recovery will be long, painful, and very expensive — but we refuse to give up on him…

Luke will remain in recovery for about six more weeks before he will be eligible for adoption.

Just incase you want to smile at Luke’s amazing energy to survive, check out his first steps from the other day:

A GoFundMe page to help with medical costs for Luke’s recovery can be found here.

Chief found next to dumpster starving and searching for shelter inside abandoned house making remarkable recovery and ready for new home

0
Spread the love

Just one week ago, an abandoned German shepherd was found lying next to a Benton dumpster in Mississippi; he had been starving, trembling and searching for shelter inside an old abandoned house.

He was named Chief, and he’s one of the lucky ones. Not a day goes by that thousands of animals are abandoned, and each and every story is truly heartbreaking. It had been NYC Second Chance Rescue who stepped forward to help him.

Most are brought to rural shelters that are underequipped, overcrowded and have few reserves to help those pets, just like Chief, needing lifesaving treatments.

Left on roadsides when they no longer fit into someone’s life.

Left to fend for themselves in a world far too big, too dangerous, and too cold for a soul with no help and no voice.

Most won’t be found. Most won’t be saved.

Chief was rushed to an emergency veterinarian hospital where he began receiving the care he urgently needed. He was so depleted; even eating was a struggle.

And on Sunday, Chief was released from the hospital and is now resting and recuperating at a loving foster home.

For the first time in a very long time, he is sleeping on a soft bed instead of the cold ground. He is eating, resting, and slowly learning that the world can be kind. His foster family says he is gentle, grateful, and soaking up every bit of comfort he’s offered.

German Shepherd Dog Mixed Breed

Chief’s story is one of quiet strength and second chances. He was found in an abandoned house near a Mississippi dump site — severely emaciated, weak, and all alone. Just skin and bones, Chief had been fighting to survive with no one to care for him.

But those days are behind him now. Chief is safe, healing, and finally learning what love feels like. Beneath his rough past is a gentle soul who just wants to belong. He’s the kind of dog who will look at you with gratitude in his eyes and love you with his whole heart.

Chief deserves the soft bed, the full belly, and the family he never had. Could you be the one to show him what forever feels like?

All dogs will be altered, microchipped, and receive age-appropriate vaccines prior to adoption. Boxer’s owner sent to prison for crimes but Gracie will pay with her life unless help arrives

1

Maybe Gracie didn’t live the most extravagant life, but she had been well cared for and loved; that is until her owner had recently been sentenced to prison, and yes, Gracie will likely pay for her owner’s crime with her life.

At the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control, Gracie has been placed on the euthanasia list for Monday, November 10. According to shelter staff, Gracie is not dog friendly in the shelter, and it is difficult to place dogs in “one pet only” homes. She’s confused and stressed, and volunteers say she is reactive because she is so afraid.

This is what we know about her:

Tiny wiener dog hurled from car in terrible crash miraculously found alive by strangers 7 days later

0
Spread the love

It had been one week later, when a loveable wiener dog that had been thrown from a car during a horrible crash, was found alive by strangers in the desolate wilderness of Wyoming.

According to the Facebook page for Amanda Lohr, it had been on October 23 when she and her boyfriend had set out to visit friends in Portland, Oregon. Accompanying the couple had been their cat named Newt and their dachshund named Chewie.

Hours into the trip, an 18-wheeler semi truck that had attempted to pass Amanda’s vehicle misjudged the distance and slammed into the car with such force, the 2005 Buick Century rolled over three times. The truck left the scene. Amanda had been lucky and only suffered minor injuries, but her boyfriend spent over a week recovering from neck injuries.

Sadly, the family cat suffered terrible injuries and did not survive, but where was seven-year-old Chewie? Officers were unable to locate Chewie and assumed he had crawled away and died or had been hit by another vehicle on the highway.

The couple lost everything in the crash, and have been struggling to get back on their feet.

And then came a surprise! Just last Monday, Lohr received a phone call from a complete stranger to tell her Chewie had been found and was very much alive. It had been Kenny Coomes, a FedEx long haul truck driver who had been traveling between Salt Lake City and Scottsbluff, Nebraska, when he spotted Chewie.

Coomes recognized Chewie and although he attempted to capture the pint sized pooch, had been quite unsuccessful; that is until Scott and Kodi Allred had been driving along the same route when they spotted Chewie running close to the Interstate. Chewie was so frightened and wanted no part of anyone capturing him, but the couple didn’t give up and were finally able to slip a collar and leash over the pup’s neck.

We found this sweet little weiner dog on interstate 80 in the middle of nowhere near Elk Mountain Wyoming. We thought he was abandoned, but after having him scanned for a chip by Laramie Humane Society, we found out he has a pretty miraculous story.

It turns out his momma, Amanda was in a bad accident there on I80 near Elk Mountain as she was driving from Indiana to Oregon.

Chewie had not been wearing a dog tag, but the couple brought him to the Laramie Humane Society where his microchip tracked him back to Lohr at her home in Kokomo, Indiana.

…we thought he was dead because a teen came and told us he hit a dog near our accident site and the cops wouldn’t let us go check if it was him or not.

Chewie found alive was the miracle Amanda needed in her life. Heroes don’t always wear capes.

A fundraiser has been established for the family
