In Sherman, Texas, a shepherd named Olivia continues to recover after two men tried to kill her.
According to the Sherman Police Department, on March 29, officers had been dispatched to a home on North Grand Avenue in reference to a report about a dog being shot with a pellet gun. When officers arrived, they heard the dog yelping.
Two individuals, Gary Larkins, 41, and Thomas Bush, 52, were discovered standing over the injured dog; Bush had been holding a hammer.
Based on the investigation, officers determined the dog had been shot, and both Larkins and Bush admitted to attempting to kill the dog named Olivia. Both men were arrested and charged with a Third Degree felony of Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals Causing Serious Bodily Injury.
Sherman Animal Services took custody of Olivia. She was transported to a local veterinary emergency hospital for treatment. Olivia sustained serious injuries, including trauma to the head and face, but she is expected to survive. She is currently recovering at the Sherman Animal Shelter.
In Olivia’s latest update, she is reported to be doing better and will remain under the shelter’s care for at least two weeks. Olivia did lose an eye, but despite what this very friendly dog has endured through no fault of her own, she is reported to be very sweet and loves attention.
If found guilty at trial, Larkins and Bush could face between 2-10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
Olivia is not currently available for adoption as she continues to recover.
