In Long Island, New York a terminally ill man had one final request; he wanted to say goodbye to his two beloved German shepherds and make sure they would spend their lives in a loving home.
The patient, identified as Mr. Spencer was granted his dying wish to say farewell to his two German shepherds, Bowie and Nikki. The medical team at Columbia University Irving Medical Center had contacted the NYC Second Chance Rescue for help with this special wish.

They brought comfort not only to their person, but to everyone around them. doctors, nurses and staff paused to watch in awe as nikki and bowie calmly followed commands – responding beautifully when he gave them cues in German – a lifetime of training, love and trust…
On February 24, the medical team contacted Second Chance to let them know Mr. Spencer was nearing his end of life, and the compassionate rescue staff rushed Nikki and Bowie to the hospital for the heartbreaking goodbyes.
We are deeply grateful he was able to be reunited with the dogs he loved so much one more time. He passed not long after their visit.
Rescuers have asked everyone to take a moment to thank the incredible doctors and staff at @columbiamed. They advocated for their patient and for his beloved dogs by reaching out Second Chance on social media.

Nikki and Bowie would not be here today, were it not for them.
These bonded shepherds are still urgently in need of an adopter. They are very people friendly, incredibly well trained, well behaved, must stay together and must be the only pets in the home.
Nikki is 10. Bowie is 4. Both are people friendly, well-mannered and deeply loving dogs who have clearly been cherished their entire lives. They are housebroken, love their walks, enjoy a good game of fetch and above all else, just want to be near people and each other. They MUST stay together. The dogs bring comfort simply by being beside you.
Please know, these two are deeply bonded to each other and while its exponentially harder to find placement for two dogs versus one, they MUST stay together
Give the gift of love to two hearts who need it most and adopt or foster this bonded pair.
