Sweet dog lost everything except his kind heart when his family was evicted from their home

Spread the love

Meet Theo; this seven-year-old, 70 pound Chesapeake Bay and Labrador retriever blend, is hoping a family will visit the Niagara Dog Rescue, fall in love with him and take him home as their newest family member. He didn’t wind up at a shelter because he was unwanted; sadly his life fell apart around him.

Theo’s family loved him deeply, but when they were evicted from their home, they no longer had any options except to surrender their senior dog hoping he would soon be adopted.

When Theo first arrived at the shelter, his eyes expressed confusion and worry. It’s the same heartbreaking look dogs carry with them when the life they have known suddenly disappears. He used to be loved. He used to be well cared for, but economics presented an uncompromising battle, and Theo had been caught in the middle.

Through no fault of his own, Theo went from a home… to a shelter… to a kennel where he began to shut down. He grew anxious, withdrawn, and heartbreakingly close to losing his life simply because he didn’t understand what was happening.

And now… he’s been given a second chance. At first, all the new places and new places Theo has encountered, made him nervous. He would hang back while quietly becoming accustomed to all the new people, dogs, smells and experiences. But as he relaxed and his heart rate slowed down, the sound of a soft voice and a gentle hand seemed to have turned on that friendly tail wag and the softening of his eyes.

Theo is the definition of gentle strength. He’s calm, affectionate, and incredibly well-mannered. He’s house trained, crate trained, walks beautifully on leash, and rides peacefully in the car. He’s wonderful with people and other dogs, and he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He just wants to feel safe again.

Theo doesn’t demand a lot of attention; he quietly hopes someone will slowly come to him. And now he is hoping for a home where he can feel love, stretch out, play in the yard and feel confident he is HOME.

Theo doesn’t need perfection. He just needs someone who will stay.

If you open your heart to him, you won’t just be giving him a home — you’ll be giving him his world back.
