At the non profit rescue organization in Blue Springs, Missouri, Pawportunities, a nine-year-old Shih Tzu had been surrendered because the owner had been transferred to assisted living.
What has made the heartbreaking situation particularly poignant included the elderly grandmother who was found by authorities in horrible condition; the poor woman was discovered living in her recliner with a portable toilet next to it. The home was not fit for humans to live.
The rescuer stated she was not trying to shame anyone, but rather bring attention to please physically go to the homes of elderly relatives and check on them frequently.
…to help ensure things like this don’t happen to your loved ones. Senility can onset quickly, and it’s so important to take care of our older loved one and the animals they love.
Visiting those older or shut in loved ones and neighbors does take a village, but every visit, every phone call and just acts of kindness helps those who cannot help themselves.

And as people age, please ask them if they would like to make arrangements to make sure their pets will be cared for in case they are no longer able to be good pet parents. Of course, it may be a difficult conversation, however knowing someone’s loved pet will be taken care of, can bring immense comfort.
And here we are introducing our friends to nine-year-old Sam Elliot who is ready to be adopted.
