In an emergency winter rescue effort in DeKalb County, Tennessee, as winter storm Fern drove temperatures dangerously low, Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) raced against the cold and nightfall on Saturday in order to rescue 42 Pomsky and other “designer” mix dogs and puppies.

A Pomsky is a popular “designer” dog breed which is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian husky; the dogs look like miniature huskies and can weigh between 16 to 30 pounds.

Local animal control officials had reached out to ARC after having been informed that dozens of adult dogs and puppies had been left outdoors in cages and pens by a backyard breeder as the icy weather returned. Temperatures had quickly plummeted into the teens with fierce blowing winds.

ARC’s Field Team arrived to move the dogs out of the freezing conditions and brought them to the safety of their rescue center outside of Nashville. The dogs and puppies are now warm and receiving medical care. Once cleared by veterinarians, the dogs will be transferred to various approved rescue partners for adoption.

Multiple investigations are currently underway after having been prompted by reports of animals in distress.
