Raccoon hunter accidentally killed after bullet ricocheted off tree

In North Judson, Indiana, a 31-yea-old hunter was killed while trying to shoot a raccoon as the bullet ricocheted off a tree.

According to AbcNews, on Saturday night, March 1, Andrew Boots had been hunting around 10:30 p.m. in a wooded area near State Road 110. Boots was accompanied by a group of hunters when another person in the party fired at a raccoon climbing a tree. The round ricocheted off the tree and struck Boots in the abdomen while he was standing close by.

Boots was rushed to South Bend Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The Indiana Department of National Resources (DNR) and the Indiana Conservation Office are currently investigating the fatal accident.
