Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission is asking for the public’s help identifying the person(s) involved in the shooting of a bald eagle.
According to the commission’s press release, on January 12, officers with a team of Northglenn Park rangers and local animal control officers recovered an injured bald eagle from Croke Reservoir. The eagle was safely captured and brought to a local wildlife rehabilitation facility where it underwent radiographs and subsequent surgery.

The raptor had been shot in the wing with a ball bearing.
The eagle is now recovering at the facility.

On the Facebook page for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, hundreds of comments criticized the inhumanity and cruelty. Why anyone would think it’s okay to shoot not only a symbol of the United States of America, but the animal cruelty involved drew disgust and a forward investigation to find the responsible party involved.
As a federally and state protected species, the shooting or injury of a bald eagle is illegal under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
The organization is seeking any tips or information about the shooting. Tips can be reported anonymously to Operation Game Thief (OGT) at 1-877-265-6648 or [email protected]. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service can be contacted at 1-844-397-8477 or [email protected].
