In Louisville, Kentucky a neighborhood dog was captured on body camera footage released by the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) demonstrating what has been regarded as a “real life Lassie” moment where the dog led officers to the location of a missing three-year-old child.

On January 7, 2026, a search had been initiated to find the missing child. Both drones and helicopters had been employed. As Officer Josh Thompson had been directing the search and searching the neighborhood on foot, a mysterious neighbor dog approached and started barking as if to gain the officer’s attention.
The dog led the officer to a nearby backyard and stood by the rear bumper of an SUV. Inside the vehicle, the police discovered the missing child in the passenger seat. He was scared but safe.
The little boy was reunited with his family.

Officer Thompson has patrolled the same area for two years, and noted he had never seen the dog before and has not seen it since the rescue.
Outstanding work by our officers, and a four‑legged friend who reminded us that heroes come in all forms.
