Magical new life for puppy tossed away in trash when adopted by police officer who found him

It had been on Christmas Eve in Gardena, California when a puppy had been tossed away inside of a trash compactor shivering and panicky when a police officer discovered him. The officer had been walking by a church when he heard soft whimpering sounds and cries coming from a self-compacting trash can.

Security cameras in the area were present outside of the church, however the footage has not been released to police.

The officer opened the receptacle, and there he was – a tiny one-year-old terrier. The puppy, dubbed as Flan, had been thrown away as if he had been an old pair of shoes.

According to the spcaLA, the officer contacted Gardena Animal Control where Flan was transported to their South Bay Adoption Center and where he was given a full medical checkup and care.

Even with that ending, Flan would have been able to look forward to a new life very quickly, but the story got even more heartwarming. That same officer who found Flan on Christmas Eve brought his family of the adoption center after the dog’s stray period was up and decided to adopt him.

Many thanks to Sgt. Nick Beerling for his kindness and making Flan – now named Norm — in honor of the street where he was found.
