It had been a very lucky day for a small dog named Bailey last week when Hanover Fire-EMS units were dispatched to the 9300 block of Blacksmith Drive for a residential structural fire.

On May 21, when nine units responded, firemen saw smoke coming out from the attic. While searching the home, firefighters found the frightened dog in the home; a fireman was able to pick him up and rush him out of the smoky house. Photos posted by the fire department appear to show the dog receiving oxygen for probably smoke inhalation.

The dog, Bailey, has been in the care of a local veterinarian.
According to The Lucky Paw Foundation, the family will be receiving all the pet supplies needed for Bailey to recover.
Many thanks to the Hanover County Fire-EMS Department and Metro Richmond Flying Squad.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Thank you to the Metro Richmond Flying Squad for their assistance.
Hanover Fire-EMS encourages all residents to check their smoke detectors monthly, change their smoke detector batteries every 6 months, and recommends smoke detectors be replaced at the manufacturer’s recommended life cycle.
