Just hours ago, it was New Year’s Eve, and even though Suzette Hall, founder of the nonprofit animal rescue, Logans Legacy 29, had planned a quiet night at home, another lifesaving rescue plea came in just as she was settling in for the evening.

A homeless dog had been struck by a car, and after having been hit, he crawled back and curled up in the exact spot where he had originally been seen for the last several days. Thankfully, workers across the street in the industrial area witnessed the accident happen, and thank goodness for the woman, Jenny, whose heart is as big as they come. She ran straight to him, stayed with him in the rain and called for help so the frightened pup wouldn’t be alone.

It was as if the loyal pup had been waiting for someone he loved to return. Sadly, he had nowhere to go, and no one was coming for him.
Mary, a volunteer for Logan’s Legacy 29, arrived at the industrial area where the dog shivered in the pouring rain. She took off her own sweater in the pouring rain and laid it over the dog as he looked up at her with pleading eyes, as if thankful for help. He was not only injured, but he was painfully thin. How long had he been out there trying his best to survive?
When Suzette arrived, she was brought to the brink of tears, but there was important work to do to save this dog:

when I arrived, I couldn’t believe it either and yet … I could because this is the world these dogs are surviving in.
She carefully lifted him into her van, driving through the pouring rain praying, begging and hoping he would make it. A quick examination at the scene indicated a severe leg injury, but he also suffered from wounds all over his body as well as being severely emaciated.

We have named him Emmanuel—God with us.
This was an emergency, and one Hall was not expecting, but she could not, nor would she leave him to die in pain alone on a pouring rainy night in the middle of nowhere.
Updates to follow.
