In Live Oak, Florida, a jury of his peers reached a guilty verdict for Eric Roldan, who police said slammed a 10-week-old puppy onto the ground and stepped on her, leaving her with a cracked skull, brain swelling and a shattered nasal cavity.

On Wednesday, the jury reached a guilty verdict in less than 30 minutes. Roldan is currently scheduled for sentencing on March 9, 2026.

It had been in March 2025 when Roldan had been accused of beating the puppy named Sweet Pea. Witnesses and police reported the abuse; Roldan had allegedly become annoyed because the puppy had been whimpering.

Rowan was accused of slamming the puppy to the ground and stomping on her. Sweet Pea suffered severe trauma with 20 skull fractures reported, but despite her injuries she survived and was cared for and rehabilitated by Livin’ Like Larry Farm Sanctuary.
Despite all odds and the heartbreaking injuries, Sweet Pea had been a survivor. Just a week later, she had shown signs of improvement.

The good:
GUYS OUR GIRL OPENED HER LEFT EYE!!!! It’s there!!! It looks good!!!! Her neurologist said he won’t know if she can see out of it for another couple weeks.
The large displaced skull bone was pressing on the globe and not allowing the eye to open.
SHE HAS THE PRETTIEST EYE IN ALL THE WORLD AND I CRY EVERYTIME I SEE HER LITTLE EYE!!!!
Her kidney panel came back unremarkable!
Sweetpea continues to eat, and if she’s good through the night it is possible she can transfer out of ICU and back to Oviedo for in hospital monitoring.
Earlier this month, Sweet Pea celebrated her first birthday. She remains with permanent disabilities including difficulty swallowing and limited use of one eye. Sweet Pea still needs a major surgery for a titanium plate to replace her skull that’s missing.
Sweet Pea is a survivor.
