Heartless man accused of punching German shepherd for no reason

Who does this? The Suffolk County SPCA in Suffolk County, New York has charged a man from Brookhaven with animal cruelty.

According to Roy Gross, the organization’s chief officer, Ronald Weldon, 49, from Middle Island, faces one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty. In April 2025, Weldon is alleged to have repeatedly punched his white, four-year-old German shepherd, Bennie, with a closed fist several times. Weldon has been accused of holding Bennie down on the ground to hit him; the dog struggled to escape and cried out in pain.

On January 22, 2026, SPCA detectives issued Weldon a Field Appearance Ticket. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on February 2, 2026
