Dog trapped in well in freezing weather for days rescued with specialized technical assist

In St. Clair Township, Ohio, fire officials with specialized technical equipment and training, rescued a dog on Sunday that had fallen into a well. The dog, named Blue, a German Shepherd-Husky mix had been missing since Thursday.

According to the St. Clair Township Fire Department, accompanied by the St. Clair Township/New Miami Life Squad, responded to a location where a dog had been discovered trapped in a well. Deputies on scene reported the dog had been down a 25 to 35 feet area.

The situation was assessed, and more specialized help would be needed. The Butler County Tech Rescue had then been called in to assist. Once units arrived at the scene, they set up for the dog’s rescue and a member of the team climbed down into the well.

Fire officials say that it was Liberty Township firefighter Cody Helmuth who went into the well and retrieved Blue.

When the rescuer reached the dog, named Blue, he was checked out and secured to a rope and harness and brought up wit the team member.

After the dog’s rescue, the well was secured to prevent further accidents.

Blue has been reported to be doing well.
