Meet Nazgul – a two-year-old Czechoslovakian wolfdog named Nazgul, who likely told no one he had dreams of being in the Olympics one day; until unexpectedly he ran onto the course during the women’s cross country skiing team qualifier.

It had been on February 18 when Nazgul crossed the finish line. A viral video shows the moment when the dog joined the race.

Nazgul belongs to a local resident who had reported his dog had escaped after seeing all the people gathering around the area to watch the qualifier. Skiers included women from Sweden and Argentina who had been surprised when spotting the dog running, however Nazgul did not interfere with the competition.

Just in case you were wondering:

Nazgul, who according to NPR lives at a nearby hotel in Tesero, broke on to the course on Wednesday morning and sprinted for the line behind Croatia’s Tena Hadzic as she came to the end of the qualifying race for the women’s team cross-country sprint. Even if he had completed the entire race, Nazgul’s time would not have counted as he is male. And a dog.

Officers were quick to capture the dog, but he sure did amass a huge number of fans with many calling him the favorite of the Olympic Games.
