In Lusby, Maryland, a senior dog is recovering thanks to a community that joined together in response to a call concerning a dog stuck deep in the mud.
When discovered, 13-year-old Bella was cold, shaking and not able to stand. Animal Control Officers Limerick and Bell-Bussler from the Calvert County Animal Shelter had responded to the caller who found the exhausted dog behind her home stuck neck-deep in mud.

Fortunately, a concerned neighbor had been able to free her from the marsh, but Bella needed immediate medical care. With the assistance from St Leonard Volunteer Fire Department, Bella was carried by a sling and brought to stable ground.
Bella was transported to the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter, where she was treated for hypothermia and closely monitored by veterinary staff. During her recovery, a volunteer stayed by her side, offering comfort and reassurance.

Bella’s owners were later located, and the dog has since been reunited with her family. She is continuing veterinary care at home. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Many thanks to the Good Samaritan who found her, the animal control officers, Saint Leonard Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and the volunteers and staff for being a concerned community and helping Bella.
