After 365 days in shelter, Jackson thought he found a home but that only lasted one week

Spread the love

Six-year-old Jackson has been at the Mesquite Animal Shelter in Texas for a year. His story began on a sad note, but he’s a bright star, and everyone who meets him is determined to help him find the happy life he’s meant to enjoy.

Just this week, Jackson left the shelter; his tail wagged with exuberance, and the smile on his face melted hearts as he happily left. For sure, Jackson’s patience had paid off – he was going home:

After 365 long days in the shelter, Jackson finally found hope—a family promised him forever. But in less than a week, that promise was broken, and he was returned, heartbroken and confused. Each time he looks through the kennel door, you can see him wondering what he did wrong, searching for a reason why he keeps getting left behind.

It had been on March 5, 2025 when Jackson first arrived at the shelter. He had been in poor health; he was malnourished, callused and showed obvious signs of neglect. Yet, in spite of the hardships Jackson had been made to endure, he remained gentle and kind.

As he healed, the days of sunshine, long walks and interaction with the staff and volunteers, made the days brighter and the nights less lonely.

Medical status: Jackson is heartworm positive, but the condition can be cured.

It was not Jackson’s fault that he was returned to the shelter. He is perfect just the way is, and every one at the shelter loves him deeply. His story isn’t over, and there are brighter days ahead. Everyone is fighting for him; loving and believing that his forever family is out there.

Despite everything, Jackson remains full of love. He adores people, cherishes time out of the kennel, and lives for walks and playing in the yard. He finds joy climbing on the equipment and pressing close to the volunteers, soaking up every bit of affection offered. Even with the chaos of barking dogs around him, Jackson remains calm and gentle, taking treats with the softest touch.

Don’t lose hope, sweet boy. We won’t let you down. Please help us find JACKSON a DESERVING home!
